Uzaki-Chan Wants to Hang Out focuses on two characters, Uzaki (a 2nd year in college) and Sakurai (a 3rd year). Their chemistry is something that we have seen a few times before in other manga and anime: Uzaki wants to make Sakurai a more extroverted person, while Sakurai is quite happy keeping to himself. Uzaki unsurprisingly will not take no for an answer and funny moments ensue.
The story follows the pair around to many different places, such as batting cages, movies, and even the café where Sakurai works. More often than not, Uzaki and Sakurai start off calm; then, something happens that causes everything to change, usually ending in Sakurai being embarrassed. The side characters in this story are also great, with Sakurai’s boss at the café being one of my favorites. He is a laid-back gentleman who has a humorous side that shows more when he is around Uzaki. The side characters have a purpose and add a lot to the story even though they only show up here and there. At the start of the book, Sakurai wants nothing to do with Uzaki, but throughout the story, you can see him start to warm up to her, even though she’s a pain in his neck.
Overall, this is a cute story of a student trying to get another classmate to become a more outgoing and fun person. I was smiling the whole time because the story is fun and the character designs and personalities are great. The pages between chapters also feature the artist’s notes and sketches, some poking fun at things in the story. There is a bit of fan service in this book, but that is expected, just look at the cover and read the description. That said, the fan service doesn't take anything away from the story. If you are fine with that and want a slice of lifecomedy with two great protagonists, I recommend this manga.
Sakurai Shinichi’s one wish is for a little peace and quiet. But Uzaki Hana–his boisterous, well-endowed underclassman–has other plans. All she wants is to hang out and poke fun at him. With the help of her chipper charm and peppy persistence, this might just be the start of a beautiful relationship! Fans of slice-of-life comedy are sure to enjoy this new “odd couple” tale about misadventures in a college setting.Add to CartLearn More
