Nozomi Entertainment, a Right Stuf, Inc. company, announced last weekend at its Anime Expo industry panel that it has licensed several Macross anime series: Macross 7, Macross Delta, and Macross Frontier. Nozomi plans to release all three titles on Blu-ray in partnership with BIGWEST.
"It is a huge honor to bring Macross to North America," says Jake Hockenberry, Manager of Nozomi Entertainment. "It is a storied franchise, and we are so happy to bring it to longtime fans and introduce the series to those who have never experienced Macross before."
Nozomi Entertainment and Right Stuf, Inc. CEO, Shawne Kleckner agrees. He notes that when he visits Japan, the legacy of Macross can be seen and heard everywhere. "As a fan of classic anime, I'm happy to be working with BIGWEST to bring some of that overseas," he said.
BIGWEST CEO, Kaya Onishi, has fond memories working on the series. "MACROSS 7 is the first MACROSS series I was involved with the production of. Its 49 episodes were broadcast over the course of a year and the series' unique protagonist Basara Nekki, who flew into battle not to fight but to sing, proved to be especially popular with Japanese fans. Seeing this, I realized just how wonderful the power of music was. As a result, I decided that I wanted to continue to provide fans with the sort of music and experiences that would not only move them, but would also remain with them. I'm overjoyed to now have the opportunity to bring the Macross franchise, which embodies the power of such music, to a global audience. I hope that you'll sing, laugh and cry along with Basara, Ranka, Sheryl and Freyja watching them on Blu-ray!"
All three series will have a Blu-ray release, including collector's ultra-editions with bonus content. Macross 7 will be split across two sets, while Macross Frontier and Macross Delta will have individual sets.
About MACROSS 7
It is the year A.D. 2045.
The seventh New Macross-class vessel, Macross 7, home to over one million inhabitants, journeys in search of habitable planets. Having departed Earth seven years earlier, the fleet is continuing on its journey when its flagship is suddenly attacked.
Meanwhile, at an outdoor venue in a park in Macross City, the rock band FIRE BOMBER has just started its opening set. The band's lineup includes passionate lead vocalist and guitarist, Basara, bassist and singer, Mylene (the seventh daughter of Max and Milia Jenius), the laid-back founding member and keytarist, Ray, and on drums, the Meltran of few words, Veffidas.
Their gig is just starting to go off when things are interrupted by the attack on the fleet. What is the identity of the mysterious enemy fleet and the true purpose of their attack? The inhabitants of Macross 7 are soon caught up in a nightmarish conflict, the likes of which they could never have imagined.
About Macross Frontier
Many years ago, the Earth was caught up in an intergalactic war. Humanity, having experienced the threat of annihilation, set out towards all corners of the galaxy in hopes of securing their future.
It is now A.D. 2059. On board the Super Long-Range Emigration Fleet Macross Frontier, Ranka Lee is looking forward to an upcoming concert by superstar singer Sheryl Nome, who is visiting from the Macross Galaxy Fleet.
Ranka dreams of becoming an idol singer herself one day, and on her way to the concert she bumps into Alto Saotome, a young man training to become a Variable Fighter pilot.
When the concert venue is attacked by a mysterious alien species known only as the Vajra, emotions run high and a complicated relationship begins to form between the three.
What is the shocking secret behind Ranka's song? More importantly, will humanity survive long enough to find out?
About Macross Delta
The year is A.D. 2067. In a remote region of the galaxy, a disease known as Vár Syndrome runs rampant, causing those inflicted by it to turn violent and run amok.
To combat this, the Tactical Sound Unit Walküre is formed. Traveling from planet to planet, they perform concerts quelling the Vár's symptoms with their music.
But behind the scenes, the Kingdom of the Wind's Aerial Knights, a squadron of Variable Fighters, begin to make their move.
A tale of ancient Protoculture ruins, teamwork, and love begins to unfold — one that will shake the very galaxy to its core.
