I was super thrilled to hear that Lovesick Ellie was getting a paperback release after hearing the premise of the manga because it sounded hilarious and very sweet. After reading this volume, I felt like this debut lived up to those expectations and did not disappoint.

This quirky romance revolves around a plain and invisible high schooler named Eriko, and she has a crush on a prince-like boy at her school named Ohmi. Too shy and invisible to approach him, Eriko gawks at Ohmi from afar and fantasizes about dating him. She shares these wild and romantic thoughts with her followers on her secret Twitter account, under the pseudonym, "Lovesick Ellie."

One day, Eriko accidentally witnesses Ohmi being his true self and Ohmi unintentionally discovers Eriko's Twitter account, but the two agree to keep each other's secrets. However, now that the cat is out of the bag, they both realize they can be their genuine selves around each other, and Eriko's fantasies could actually become reality.

I laughed so much while reading this; it's an insanely cute and fluffy story about Ohmi and Eriko growing closer as they discover more about each other. Watching these weirdos interact is pure bliss; they're well-suited for each other and I love that they embrace each other's quirks.

I adored both the main and side characters in this series. Ohmi is secretly a tsundere character; he's grumpy and a little rude, but he likes to keep his prince-like façade at school in order to mask his rotten personality. Eriko is a little shy and naïve, but she's pretty honest and outspoken about her feelings. She's also a little weird and awkward, especially when getting overexcited about her daydreams and fantasies, but I love the quirkiness of her personality and I find it unique compared to other shojo heroines.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that the art in this series is spectacular; it's super pretty and pairs well with the characters and the story. I love Eriko's facial expressions when she's being pervy, they're super funny and when Ohmi is blushing and getting flustered, he looks adorable.

Everything about this manga is so stinking cute!! It's a wonderful rom-com and I highly recommend you check it out if you enjoy reading shojo with unique and hilarious twists to the characters, plot, and romance.

Check back every month for our manga review contest page as we will be adding new manga to the list! Don't forget to submit your reviews for a chance to win a $75 gift card like Samantha did!
