So do you need to know anything about “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon?” before diving right in to the “Days of Goddess” 4-panel spin-off manga? Not really, but you will get a lot more out of it if you do; not to mention the in-jokes! I’m usually not a huge fan of short snippet 4-panels like this, but because I already know the characters I got a big kick out of all their shenanigans! Bell-kun has been relegated to the supporting cast – awe, poor Bell - for this outing. It’s Hestia’s life back in town which readers will follow, along with all the other gods and goddesses back in town, and I feel like I got to know all these “side characters” much better – especially Ganesha! Everyone makes some kind of appearance and whether it’s Lily’s inability to shake Hestia’s suspensions, Loki’s quest to out-do Hestia’s chest at all costs, Freya trying to hide her obsession over Bell, or Hestia’s bid to live above the poverty line by selling as many Jyaga Maru Kun from her cart each page offers up some great laughs!

The humor is mostly situational with a few storylines stretching out across multiple pages. Mostly the characters just take potshots at each other which result in much hilarity! The character designs have been slightly chibi-fied (which makes them that much cuter) plus enhances their facial expressions! Author Masaya Takamura did a great job of marrying the in-town escapades with the main storyline, and as a bonus treat, if you’re already familiar with Danmachi you’ll also be able to tell just exactly where Bell is adjacent to the main storyline based on what’s happening back in town! If you have no idea what Danmachi is all about though, don’t worry, you’ll still be able to enjoy the humor as every time a new location or character is introduced there’s a conveniently placed “Intro Plaque” in the 4-panel. These have just enough information to keep you in the know. “Days of Goddess” is a great addition to your shelves and I for one am going to add this to my collection. I also think that those Ganesha Christmas Ornaments need to be a real thing!
