Imagine if elements from Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto were combined into a Taisho Japan era setting. You get Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba. This story is about our main protagonist Tanjiro Kamado, who one day takes a walk down the mountain to sell some charcoal so his family can go to the new years’ festival. However, he is caught in a snowstorm and must stay overnight in the village down the mountain. The next day he comes home to find his whole village slaughtered by a demon! The only survivors are Tanjiro and his sister, Nezuko, who she herself has turned into a demon! Now Tanjiro must take a journey to become a demon slayer himself and find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human. Will he succeed?
The art style of this manga took me back to my middle school days with my obsession with Naruto. Not to mention that demons are the main factor in both stories. I was also reminded of Fullmetal Alchemist when it came to comedy moments being cleverly mixed into the more serious moments, such as battles. One thing that all three stories have in common is that each main protagonist has their own personal goals that they strive for.
This manga sucked me in from the very beginning and I was honestly intrigued the entire time while reading. It was extremely hard to put down and the end made me want more of the story. I personally will be adding this series to my manga collection and will be following it as more volumes are released. If you are a fan of any Shonen or Viz titles in general, Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba would be perfect for you. Volumes one and two are available for pre-order now. Get your copies of both volumes today!
