When first reading the novel version of “Woof Woof Story, I Told You to Turn Me Into a Pampered Pooch Not Fenrir!” I enjoyed trying to picture the story in my mind. Now being able to read the manga version and seeing how the artist, Kiki Koikuchi, depicts the series through beautiful illustrations, my imagination has been put to ease. Most importantly, I didn’t know there were so many ways to draw an adorable chibi wolf!
That being said, the art and illustrations are crisp, sometimes basic, but often comes out in the chibi style (which I still love and adore). The concept is pretty barren: it’s your typical reincarnation, as we’ve been seeing in a lot of different stories as of late. The story sticks fairly close to the first volume of the novel. Woof Woof Story performs well, but could still improve on character development as most of these characters are given only a small glimpse into their backstory. While I feel like I could lose myself in such an imaginative world, I also feel like it’s slightly low on the creativity scale. Its primary focus is turned to a character being reincarnated into a powerful wolf, but it doesn’t focus on creating the world around him. With my love towards the old mythology of Fenrir, I plan on further following this series in hopes that the story makes long lasting strides towards its ultimate plot and hoping we can see more world development. The first volume, while it was enjoyable to read, featured a lot of grimacing moments when simple questions didn’t seem to be answered like.. why, where, and how?
If you like other reborn as... series, such as Reborn As A Vending Machine I Now Wander The Dungeon or In Another World With My Smartphone, or if you’re simply looking for a nice adventure/fantasy-esque themes, I would highly recommend this series to you.
