The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious takes you on a journey through the magical world of Gaeabrande. In this world, each character is given stats and special abilities, similar to how RPG games operate. Created by author Light Tuchihi, this isekai combines the comedy of an overly cautious hero with overpowering battle scenes, making the pages fly by!
The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious follows the newly appointed Goddess of Gaeabrande Ristarte, Rista for short, who’s job is deciding which human is the best hero to summon and protect the innocent world of Gaeabrande. As she frantically shuffles through the huge stack of unimpressive candidates and their stats, the answer smacks her right in the face - literally. This character’s stats are insanely powerful for a level one and is the perfect person to handle this mission! Excitedly she summons our hero, Seiya Ryuuguuin, without a moment’s hesitation. Almost immediately Rista realizes she made a terrible choice by picking Seiya because he is more than she can handle.
The story does a fantastic job steering away from normal isekai tropes. For starters the two main characters have such dynamic personalities that they balance out the story. Seiyu is never trusting of his environment or anyone, and Rista is too trusting. Several of their scenes together are of them fighting about if Seiyu has prepared enough to venture forward, but it always has gut-splitting humor sewed in. Volume 1 does a fantastic job of juggling comedy with action, starting the series off on the right foot.
I am very excited to see where this story will take us. I heard about this series awhile ago and always wanted to jump into the world. The fan service is apparent, but it’s served with a dash of humor. Overall this series hit every base for me. And with the first season of the anime available, I plan to soak up more of the story. If you’re a fan of isekais, breathtaking battle scenes, comical character interactions, and a sprinkle of fan service, then I highly recommend The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious for you!
