Since I started at Right Stuf Anime, I’ve been widening my palette of genres and absorbing more of the anime industry. Now as you all know, the isekai genre has been growing in popularity for quite some time now, from Sword Art Online,Re: Zero,Rising of the Shield Hero, and countless more LITERALLY. I definitely enjoy the concept of being transported to a new world and gaining powers (in most cases), but the isekai genre has a wild way of naming their titles and creating these plots that deter me from picking up the series. It’s almost like they draw words out of hats and roll from there...but I digress. One isekai that caught my eye and was heavily recommended is That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, and honestly, the anime sold this shonen lover with their fantastic fight scenes and bizarre use of powers. So reviewing a new spin-off from the series was an instant, heartbeat reaction. So let’s get isekai’d into this review.
Framea introducing herself to Rimuru. Demon Lord Rimuru offers a position to Framea to write a tourist guide for new visitors (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime The Ways of the Monster Nation Manga Volume 1 / page 24).
To begin any spin-off series, you have to know the basics of the original story. To shorthand the main story of That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime,, a man died and was reincarnated as a slime in this new world full of monsters and powers. This slime gains the name of “Rimuru Tempest” and sets out to forge a new, harmonious life. His goal is to unite people with monsters in hopes that it will bring an era of peace. In the That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime The Ways of the Monster Nation, Rimuru has already established a great civilized nation that’s known for its tranquility called Tempest. New to the nation and the protagonist of this series is Framea of the Rabbitfolk. She is, as you guessed, an outgoing, yet timid rabbit human hybrid who is learning about the Tempest nation.
Demon Lord Ramiris reassuring Framea that if her party dies within the dungeon, that they would be resurrected with no repercussions (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime The Ways of the Monster Nation Manga Volume 1 / page 112).
One thing I really liked about this spin-off is how they established the perspective of this thriving nation from a commonfolk’s eyes. You can definitely see how far in the story this starts just by how much growth the main cast has. As a new fan of the series, this manga gave me just enough enjoyment of the series while I’m waiting for the next season. The humor is great, especially Framea’s first impressions of Team Tempest. Overall, the manga was very entertaining and I’d recommend this read to anyone who wants to be transported (or even isekai’d) into this world.
