Living with roommates is never an easy situation and is something we never forget. Which is why this manga is so touching.
Shortcake Cake is a story about a young schoolgirl named Ten Serizawa. To be close to school, Ten moves from the mountains to the city. She boards up with roommates, where she meets new friends and three (attractive) boys. Here, Ten deals with the pains of maturity, such as falling in love and settling differences. Each page turn brings the joy and anger of having roommates to life. My favorite is when they “explain” the house rules.
The manga’s plot brought back my own memories of living with roommates. It’s startling how Ten’s experiences are so like mine.
Side note: The character designs are super adorable. In my humble opinion it’s worth checking out on that fact alone. The cute artwork works well when characters have a falling out, giving the reader a kick in the feels.
This chill, personable manga is perfect for fans of Fruits Basket or Skip Beat! For the rest of you, take a chance on this manga’s sentimental plot and hilarious adventures. Roommates drama is the best drama!
