Imagine being an up-and-coming novelist who has never met their illustrator only to find out you have been living together the whole time. This is the reality for Masamune Izumi in Eromanga Sensei, written by Tsukasa Fushimi. Masamune is a young erotic novelist who dreams of being the best, but he still has a long way to go. Masamune has never met the person doing the artwork for his novels and neither has his editor; in fact, nobody knows what the illustrator actually looks like. The artist goes by the name Eromanga Sensei and keeps their appearance hidden from everyone but still live streams when drawing the artwork for the books.
One day Masamune finds out that Eromanga Sensei is livestreaming and decides to watch and see if he can learn about them. He notices a plate of food he made for his sister in the background of the video and it hits him: His sister Sagiri is Eromanga Sensei! Sagiri has been living with him for over a year but she hasn't come out of her room since she arrived, at least not while he is around. Neither one of them knew what the other did for a living and now there is a whole new awkwardness surrounding their relationship. Not only must Masamune get his sister leave her room, but he must convince her to work with him face-to-face.
Meanwhile the erotic artwork of Sagiri has caught the eye of Masamune’s (more successful) rival Elf Yamada-Sensei. Elf is a novelist with a huge ego and a bigger god-complex who has tried multiple times to contract Sagiri. She believes that Masamune is inferior and Eromanga Sensei would be better off being with her. Because of all this the feud between Masamune and Elf becomes even more heated.
I have absolutely fallen in love with this story and I cannot wait to read the next volume. You can definitely see the personality of every character in this book and there is a great mix of subtle and in your face humor. I highly recommend this manga to anyone and everyone.
