A simple incident that brings two young kids together as forever friends: the clumsy and naïve Rui Hanamine is saved from a deep, dark, and cold gutter by Yuujirou Matsukaze. While Yuujirou mistakenly confuses Rui as a girl, Rui begins to look up to Yuujirou as a hero - but Rui was not looking up for long! As they grew up together Yuujirou was struggling with his height. By High School he was only 5’ 4” while Rui grew to a staggering 6’.
The story’s concept and overall design is adorable and heart-felt. With their feelings for each other hidden just below the surface, being too shy to fully express themselves.
The short comedic moments help to lighten the dull mood as they both try to confront their fears and climb the stairs to “adult-hood”. I quickly fell in love with the artist’s style from the gentle strokes and outlines to the wonderful shading that are easy on the eyes.
The icing on the cake comes in the form of an additional New Years short story at the end that you won’t want to miss!
Please pay close attention to the age ratings as this standalone manga does contain explicit “extra sugary” scenes near the end.
If you’re looking for a sweet, fun boys-love manga, I would recommend this book as well as other similar titles listed below. I hope to see more work from Atsuko Yusen, the creator and artist for Dekoboko Sugar Days, soon.
Yuujirou Matsukaze has been close friends with Rui Hanamine since the two of them were children, and at that time, Yuujirou was the one who stood up for and took care of his adorable, soft-hearted friend. But as it turns out, Yuujirou's childhood dreams end up growing a little too big to handle - or, rather, too tall! At over six feet in height, the cheerful and happy-go-lucky Rui towers over his would-be protector... and still has no idea Yuujirou's had a crush on him since they were kids!Add to CartLearn More
