FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, BUY THIS DVD...PLEASE!

by

Let me start by getting something off my chest...

Anime has ways of conveying emotions that is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE for human actors to mimic. The word choice, the facial expression, the tone of voice, all of which we can and never will see with eyes looking at things other than you computer or television screen. This masterful art is the exemplification of such un-imitatable feelings.

This wonderfully crafted masterpiece is the very personification of Drama and Romance.

The center of this blend of relationships is the bond between Renji (the 'wish-to-be' shining knight) and Chihiro (the frail flower of a girl). The other stories shown along side this one do have their merits in the realm of intertwining love circles, but that is the DRAMA side of this whole series. Pure, innocent love between Renji and Chihiro is by far unsurpassed in both the realm of reality and anime.

THE END WILL LEAVE YOU BALLING YOUR EYES OUT.

When you buy this DVD (because I KNOW YOU WILL) watch it with sincere intent on the full absorption of the elements it contains..and you will then shed tears of joy.

P.S. AND IF YOU DONT BUY THIS DVD, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I WILL COME TO YOUR HOUSE, DUCT TAPE YOU TO A CHAIR, STAPLE-GUN YOUR EYELIDS BACK AND RUN THIS NON-STOP UNTIL YOUR TEARS DROWN YOU IN YOUR OWN ROOM.

This series just wasn’t for me.

Standard Anime Plot #1: Boy meets girl, girl changes boy’s outlook on life
Two stories dominate this series: Renji’s pursuit of Chihiro, a girl whose memories fade after about half a day; and, a love triangle between Hiro, his childhood friend Kei who never confessed her love, and Miyako, the popular yet stand-offish new friend.
I did not enjoy this anime. My teen nieces 16 & 17, who love anime, would not even finish it, though it seemed to be made for their demographic. The way the relationships are pursued is immature (which is realistic for the ages of the characters), so I was not surprised at all by the out-come off any of the stories: If you don’t confess how you feel, of course someone else will instead; If someone has a major illness or handicap, you have to talk about it, you cannot pretend it doesn’t exist. This series just wasn’t for me.

Good Drama Romance

The show isn't for everyone, I'll start off with that. That being said, I quite enjoyed my time with it.
The scenes are "artsy" and a bit unusual, no real good realism there. That being said, if you do go in and see this world, experience these characters, I'd say it's well worth the trip.

The show has romance and drama, and is actually a bit more racy than I thought it be, so just a warning because it doesn't utilize such things well [they are supposed to be young characters after all].

Overall, I recommend the show, but again, only if you like drama, and can have the correct amount of suspension-of-disbelief when it comes to this world and its level of non-realism.

Bittersweet Memories Fade Away

by -

Ef a Tale of Memories, while enjoyable, was a bit rough around the edges. if you enjoyed Rumbling Hearts, you may enjoy the parts of this show I didn't care for. Overall though it is a quality show that has enjoyable visuals, music, characters and stories. Some of the scenes were a bit too "artistic" especially early on but it can be good to be experimental with anime.

This show doesn't truly hit it's stride until Melodies. The art stays high quality throughout and there is much more positivity mixed in with the negativity which wasn't as present in this series. Still freaking sad though. Great series overall. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good drama/tragedy like Kanon, Clannad, Air, Rumbling Hearts, etc.

Forewarning there is nudity in an episode or two and some of the themes are very mature so I would suggest against younger viewers checking it out.
