Piano: The Melody of a Young Girl's Heart...

By Kris Kleckner, Producer, 2005

In 2004, a small show came to our attention called Piano. It was different from a lot of the anime titles that were on the market at the time - there were no giant robots, no aliens or spaceships battling it out, and there wasn't a gaggle of girls chasing after a single "unlucky" guy. Instead it took a different route - reality. No, not the depressing reality TV you see plastered everywhere these days, but the gentle, touching reality of a young girl's first crush.

Piano follows the life of one very shy middle-schooler named Miu Nomura who used to love to play the piano when she was little. Like a lot of us who take up things we "love," over the years her passion has turned into a dedicated monotonous routine. Although she continues to practice, her heart simply isn't in it anymore. It's only when she first begins to take notice of an upper-classman by the name of Takahashi that things begin to change…

But this show is more than just another tale of first love. It's about the deep bonds of friendship that are always there for you no matter what happens. It's about the unconditional love of family who will always be there for you, and the soft support of those special mentors in your life that can push you in new directions. Above all, Piano is a story about finding the courage to take those first steps into a larger world, and about learning to open your heart to others.

I really hope that you will share Miu's heartwarming journey and unlock the music hidden deep within your heart as well.
