Anime & OST are the BEST!!!

If you love boys and ice skating, you'll love this anime. It's fun with a good story line. An anime that shows hard work pays. Not to forget the sound track is wonderful!

Born to Make History!!!

I have been waiting for the US release of this show forever and I am so psyched that it’s finally here! Thank you RightStuf for not only, giving fans the opportunity to preorder this item and receive it before anyone else but also, for offering the lowest price on the market. This show is charming, heartwarming and visually stunning. An emotional roll coaster from start to finish that will completely captivate you. Show creator, Mitsurō Kubo, has undeniably succeeded in her attempt to show us a world free of discrimination, where love is love. I believe this show has earned its place in anime history and rightly deserves all the praise and attention that it has received. Truly “Born to Make History” both on and off the ice.

Yuri!!! On ICE Blu-Ray/DVD

Purchased this in 2018. I’m not really into sports anime.

Overall I really enjoyed this show. Opening/closing songs were great. Songs throughout the series (skating scenes) were ok not as attention grabbing as the intro/closing.

Artwork & story was great and appealing though reused animation got redundant. Did wish there was a bit more to the shounen ai/BL angle since it was hinted at but fell flat. Would love a 2nd season or more drawn out series to go in-depth of other characters & backstories even filling the absent storyline that were shown (romantic or competitions). Character development feels a bit rushed.

This show isn’t for everyone. Like many shows it has flaws. Seems like a slice of life not set in high school but a “mature professional” setting with an athletes growing self-improvement.

Subtitles during dub???

I borrowed this show from a friend. I heard about it, but wanted to see it in English. I liked the show.

My complaint is Funimation has dropped the ball when it comes to sound options. The bluray does not have a function for subs during English play!

This is unacceptable. One of my friends is hard of hearing and has to have the sound blasting sometimes. at other peoples' houses it's not always possible. Subs during the English play lets her enjoy the show and catch anything she missed like with a heavy accent.

When the option isn't available, I have problems understanding accents or heated arguments especially when they speak fast.

I would like subs available not just with the Japanese. Everyone should have the option for subs for either tracks. I get tired of Japanese subs all the time.

I don't care if the subs don't match. I like seeing the differences too.

It feels a bit discriminatory.

A solid routine

by -

As someone who grew up very invested in watching figure skating in the 80s-90s, I am seriously impressed by the animation of figure skating here. It manages to rather accurately replicate the experience of watching figure skating both appreciatively and critically. And I learned things, which is always good.
I know all the play out there is this as a BL title, but I actually have to say that I think it's really something how if you reeeaaally wanted to, you DO have the option of viewing it without paying that angle any mind. If you want this to be a BL title, it's a great time! If you want this to be a sports anime, it's remarkably solid! If you're just watching a series cold, this is still well put together! There's good characters, good bylines, good sport, and it doesn't get too heavy in any one area. It's just cheesy and earnest and real and absurd enough to pass for just about anybody.

Great if you like figure skating

As a huge figure skating fan I loved this. It wasn't over the top like some sports anime but totally believable. Great music and interesting characters. Looking forward to the next chapter.

A breath of fresh air in the BL genre- clever, charming and funny! I only wish it was longer!

I love, love, LOVE Yuri On Ice! The shounen-ai stuff is always present but it's pretty light and flirty. Nothing too explicit, but it is heavily implied. So if you're dead set against BL then this series may not be for you. That said, it does take a lot of the tired, stupid BL cliches and flips them in some really clever ways! A big twist happens late in the series and the payoff is well worth the wait. The skating sequences are beautiful and although there is some recycling, it's not bad. With how many skating scenes there are, I thought the creators did a great job! The best part about this series is the characters and their relationships with each other and their sport. Victor and Yuri (Katsuki) make the entire show and have wonderful chemistry together, whether you see it as romantic or not. The supporting characters were also well developed. The English dub was also really good. The worst part was that it ended too soon!

Born to Make History

I didn't expect to like this anime as much as I did. It is now one of my favorites. The characters are what keep you drawn in. If you are looking for a BL anime I would look elsewhere. It's about ice skating and Yuri's career. 2 guys just fell for one another along the way, in a healthy way, with little fan service.

If you don't understand figure skating that well, don't worry it's rather easy to follow the plot without much knowledge, I know it was for me. The product is what you expect it to be and the animation has been cleaned up from the original airing. There is a small 2 minute OVA that is hilarious. The bad thing with Funimation is that it doesn't allow subtitles for the English dub. It's like this for most of their products. I don't know why, it probably has to do with formatting. But this makes it rather annoying if you like or need subtitles. But seriously you should give this anime a chance. It has flaws but is still worth the watch.
