About Yowamushi Pedal DVD

Yowamushi Pedal Season 1 set contains episodes 1-38 of the anime directed by Osamu Nabeshima.

Initially, when a fourth grade Sakamichi Onoda started biking to Akihabara every week, it was an effort to save money. After all, why ride the train when you can spend the money on anime capsule toys? Continuing the trend all the way into high school, Sakamichi never thought anything of that 90-kilometer round trip. He was much too distraught over the disbanded anime club to notice that it was more than unusual that he could climb a 20% incline slope while riding a mommy bike.

But a junior pro cyclist Shunsuke Imaizumi noticed. Driven by a need to improve his own skills, Shunsuke challenges Sakamichi to a race. While the outcome might seem obvious, there's some surprises in store for both of them before they reach the finish line! Saddle up and pedal hard to climb this DVD boxed set of the first season of Yowamushi Pedal!

Nearly made me purchase cycling apparel...

There's still a set of cycling apparel tempting me in my Amazon wishlist because of this show. It's just so fun and encouraging. The show is pure to its core. It's adrenaline filled and camaraderie is its forte. I don't delve too deep into the sports Anime genre, but I'm so so glad I decided to watch Yowamushi Pedal. This release is a pretty standard DVD release. No bells and whistles and subtitled only. Language has never stopped me from purchasing Anime but that's a buying factor for some. The big plus for this release is the episode count. So many shows have small 12 episode releases, this is a hefty 38 episodes. Although this is a much longer show than those 12 episode releases usually are. The quality is what you'd expect from DVD, and the price is fairly reasonable. If you want your Anime in HD, and you participate in legal streaming services, this may be a downgrade for you. I just can't imagine not owning Yowamushi Pedal.

Great Anime; So-So Case

I enjoy this anime a lot, but the case has me somewhat regretting my purchase. My problem with the DVD would be how the discs are stored in the case. Each... panel for the discs (excuse me if that's not the technical term) holds two discs each. With each panel, one disc overlaps onto another. So if I want to watch this or that disc, I have to remove the one that lays on top of it. That annoys me with DVDs. One of the first times I opened the case to look it over, two of the discs popped out. I wish the case instead had three panels and on each side a disc was kept. That's how my Bluray and DVDs combos do it. I'm still happy to own the first season on DVD though.

A good "coming of age" Anime.

If your not generally into sports but still want to try an Anime with the overall theme of sports, I would try this one. The struggle for each character is very well portrayed through visual metaphors and emotional turmoil. Also a good "coming of age" story.
