A Different Look of Your Name

by -

Your Name is an excellent movie, and director Makoto Shinkai has given the audience another look at the story with his novelization. While the novel tells the same story, the difference in medium means the story is presented with a different feel from the movie, while allowing the inclusion of details not covered in the film. The novel can be approached by casual readers not familiar with the movie, but fans of the movie will be able to appreciate the difference in storytelling. It is recommended that a person interested in both the movie and the novel should read the novel AFTER watching the movie.

A very nice touch by Yen Press was releasing Your Name in hardcover. The novel is small enough to be easily carried, but more durable than most other light novels.

Your Name is an excellent book that is strongly recommended.

First time reading a light novel

by -

A lot of my friends told me to check out this story because I never read or seen the anime. Usually I rather watch the animation and skip reading but I decided to read the light novel. It is a short fantastic read! I definitely recommend for anyone even slightly interested in Your Name. I feel there were some parts that were rushed but it's a minor thing.

If you are interested in reading any light novel or read a fantastic story, try Your Name out!

I will see the anime after this. :)

Money well spent!

by -

I saw the movie first and I was blown away by it. It was a beautiful love story filled with everything you would expect from Mr. Shinkai. The novel, however, does a great job of expanding on the film. You can easily read the novel without seeing the movie but I would recommend watching the movie first. This was a pleasant experience and I'm looking forward to seeing more works from Mr. Shinkai.

First time reading a light novel // BEAUTIFUL

by -

The film was truly amazing & I had high expectations for the novel too. The novel did not disappoint me. It's exactly the same as the film but in words i guess?? Everything about 'your name' is just beautiful. A beautiful story you can expect from Makoto Shinkai.

After reading this novel, I can assure you that I'm definitely going to check out more about light novels. Definitely check this out if you enjoy the film!

My first light novel // BEAUTIFUL

by -

The film was truly amazing & I really enjoyed it. As i really love the film, I wanted to read something related to it & I thought why not try light novels since I've never read one before. I expected a lot from this novel & it did not disappoint me at all. I truly love it & same as the film, it's beautiful, but in word form(?) It's similar as the film but it include details not covered in the film. I enjoyed reading this novel.

I'm going to check out more light novels as I think light novel is something everyone should try reading. Definitely get this if you enjoy & love the film!

Wonderful mass of beauty🤧

by

After watching the movie Your Name by Makoto Shinkai, I was mesmerized by how beautiful it had been. I recommend fans of the popular film read the novel of Your Name after viewing the masterpiece. The novel was an excellent way to satisfy my needs in a different medium. Of course the novel would be different compared to the movie since it's in a book format, but it does its job well. If you are familiar with the film, go ahead and embrace this other medium telling the beautiful story of Your Name! If not, I still recommend purchasing the novel as it does an amazing job at expressing everything (though you should also check out the animated movie first).

A Waste of Time

by

A copy and paste of the screenplay used for the movie, save a few touch points and the interviews at the end, which is a disappointment considering that Mr. Shinkai likes writing meta changers in his adaptive media (5cm per Second).

The heroine is even more boring in this version, and there is no attempt at vividly painting the scenery: This book is only for people to revisit the movie.

The book itself is by far the cheapest Yen On publication to ever wind up on my collection. The paper quality is newspaper, the cover is cheap and flimsy and the formatting is downright gross. It's a downright travesty that it's in the same price range as the Overlord light novels when it belongs in a $1.00 bin. An obvious money grab for Yen Press.

Pretty decent Your Name adaptation ^^

by -

I'm basing this review on the fact that I've watched the movie over and over again before I've ever read this. Usually, movie adaptations are less superior than their written ones but it doesn't work in this case.

I highly suggest you DO watch the movie first before reading this as while it gives you more insight on what the characters are thinking in a particular situation, the events basically just follow the movie (adds more hilarity at times though). No extra scenes but there were those not mentioned here but present in the Earthbound novel.

Regardless of how many times I've watched it there are hair-raising, goosebump inducing, and/or tear-jerking scenes in the movie and I find myself in a similar situation while reading this so that's a thumbs-up. Some scenes could've been expounded on in the novel but wasn't eg. What happened after Mitsuha confronted her dad the 2nd time? Novel cuts off at that particular scene at the exact same time as the movie so we're still in the blind.

This is first of TWO hard cover novels called Your Name

by

No one mentions the other Your Name hard cover novel called Another Side: Earthbound which covers most of what happened when Taki was in Mitsuha's body and explains most of the whats and whys. Highly recommended and I give both books 5 stars. I bought another set of books for my eldest grand daughter who loves the movie.
