Still The Best Ongoing Manga
by Josh -
Witch Hat Atelier continues to prove it is the best manga being published right now. Seven volumes in it is fair to say that the quality exhibited early on was no fluke, this is legit. There is a good blend of mystery, drama, fantasy and cuteness that while not wholly unique is able to set itself apart from other manga thanks to its charm and of course Kamome Shirahama's artwork. Obviously the illustrations are gorgeous but what really carries the manga is the line art, hatching and paneling. Shirahama's technical mastery and her aesthetic choices elevate Witch Hat above the repetitiveness of most manga's art. Although I would love to see this in a deluxe hardcover to really show off the art the current physical edition is large enough to do it justice and the matte covers are a nice touch.
If you have yet to give this a try you really should as I wholeheartedly believe that Witch Hat Atelier is awesome and you won't be disappointed.
Magical as always

If you're looking at the reviews on later volumes to figure out if this series is worth it, the answer is yes, it is. I wholeheartedly love everything about Witch Hat Atelier. The art is breathtaking, to the point that there is something to stop and marvel at on just about every page. The worldbuilding and magic system are developed so well and new elements are introduced with perfect pacing. It feels like you're discovering the world of witches right along with our lovable protagonist Coco. All the characters go through relatable struggles and development, and I truly love the entire cast.
Although there has been a serious undertone to the entire series so far, I feel like this volume is where the story is definitively starting to take a turn for the darker, and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next volume to come out. Give this series a try, you will not regret it.
