Wish Upon the Pleiades Blu-ray
About Wish Upon the Pleiades Blu-ray
Wish Upon the Pleiades contains episodes 1-12 and was directed by Shouji Saeki.
When Subaru goes to her local observatory to prepare for an upcoming meteor shower, she ends up seeing far more of the stars than she expected.
Instead of a simulated viewing of astronomical phenomena, she gets recruited to take part in a fantastic adventure with a mysterious young man, a bizarre alien creature, and a group of girls dressed in cute, magical garb. Together with the other girls (who are suddenly and strangely members of Subaru's school), Subaru becomes part of a clandestine effort to retrieve fragments of an alien spaceship! However, the fragments are being scattered all over the universe.
Time is limited, and the girls face a nemesis who is seeking to gather all the parts for himself! The space race is on, and the sky is no longer the limit as the legendary animation studio GAINAX sets Subaru's eyes on the stars in WISH UPON THE PLEIADES!

Ratings & Reviews
Worth Your While!
I really liked this Sentai anime. In some respects, it's a typical Sentai release with few extras: two blu-ray disks, a few trailers and clean opening and closing sequences. I like the fact that these five "magical girls" are not bullet-proof; they all have their own issues and insecurities they're working through. I felt that the writers tried hard to develop each character, considering the entire series is just 12 episodes and 300 minutes. I read a review where it was noted most the soundtrack is just simple piano music, but I feel it was very well done, particularly in episode 4 which was likely my favorite. Also, the opening theme really rocks! Another thing I liked about Wish Upon the Pleiades is how often the writers inserted astronomy and physics tidbits which might pique the interest of some young viewers out there. I've already watched the series twice, and I'm sure I'll watch it, and listen to that "simple piano music," many times more.
A Nice Series for Magical Girl Fans

After crash-landing on Earth, an alien brings five middle school girls together to find the pieces of his spaceship’s engine, but the girls also have to battle a dark magic user who wants the pieces too. For magical girl fans who want a classic coming-of-age story that isn't full of grimdark, Wish Upon the Pleiades delivers a pleasant, satisfying tale of adventure, friendship, and romance.
Sentai's Blu-Ray release has only minimal extras, but the picture and sound quality are great. After streaming Pleiades when it first came out, I was eager to buy it and see it again in 1080p on my home theater. I wasn’t disappointed. The visuals are beautiful, especially in the outer space scenes, and the animation is good aside from a few jarring 3D bits here and there. I like the soundtrack too. Lots of piano and strings, but it also has some nice space music, a musical style I enjoy but rarely hear in anime. Pleaides has virtually no objectionable content, and is suitable for all ages.
