What a Wonderful World! Manga Volume 1
About What a Wonderful World! Manga Volume 1
What a Wonderful World! volume 1 features story and art by Inio Asano.
What begins with a college dropout bored of her mediocre routine soon becomes a fantastic series of vignettes about the unexpected ways that lives intersect. Filled with magical realism in the face of the cold reality of modern life, at their core these stories are about discovering something precious in the chaos of existence. A dream recaptured. A life on a new track. The absurdity of death. Laughter in the face of reality. With this series of intersecting vignettes, Inio Asano explores the ways in which modern life can be ridiculous and sublime, terrible and precious, wasted and celebrated.

Really Solid
by Enoch
If you like short stories, this is for you. If you like philosophy about finding happiness in life this is for you. If you like manga written for a little more mature audience, this is for you. I didn't have great expectations for this going in, but figured it was short/cheap enough to be worth a go anyways, and was pleasantly surprised to find myself unable to walk away and do something else, even for "just a minute" until it was done. Looking forward to volume 2.
A nice enough binding, nothing particularly special. Just a little larger than an average tankoban, like all Viz Signature books.
And I Think To Myself...

I can't help but think of Louis Armstrong's unforgettable tune whenever reading this manga and surprisingly enough the two coincide quite nicely. Asano's WWW deals with the musings of every day life and the struggles we are facing as a generation. But in harmony with the great Louis, Asano notes that despite the cynicism, hedonism, materialism, nihilism and all the great evils that consume our world and our thoughts there is still hope. Hope, that is the message that permeates through this manga. This is a fantastic collection of short stories published in traditional VIZ Signature high quality format that belongs on the shelf of any manga reader, Inio Asano fan or self proclaimed philosopher.
What A Wonderful World it is

Wow.
For my first Asano work, this piece left quite the impression. For those that want quick, complete stories then this is the novel for you. Each chapter was a peek at the thoughts and lives of these complicated characters and how they try to find their way in a harsh, yet wonderful world. Once I finished this book, I had to sit there for a second and ponder my own life.
