VIKINGS!

by -

If you like vikings then I don't know why you haven't bought this yet.
If you are in the middle about vikings keep reading >:D
This is probably one of the deepest story's I've read. The characters seem extremely realistic and the events that happen are awesome. It is a DEEP story that even involves people debating about religion at some points. The art is amazing and the fact that its a hardcover makes it 10X better.
This even has REAL historical places in it.
The first Volume is kinda slow but its still amazing.
So even if you like it a little keep reading. It gets so much better and the stuff that happens will drop your jaw and make you cry.

5/5 SemiStars (Which is equivalent to a elephant riding a ball. Yes, its that good of a manga)

"Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world."

...Oh, and uh--this 1st volume of Vinland Saga is pretty great.

Vikings!!!! I read One Piece and Oda always talks about how great vikings were and his inspiration. Then i read this and was blown away. Its gritty, bloody, ruthless, and a great story. Following the character from childhood to manhood its a great read.

A Vikings Tale

by -

A nice and steadily paced story. Great art, but maybe glorifying the viking lifestyle yet that's what i'd expect to see from a shonen manga. If you are looking to break away from the mainstream manga lately being zombies, demons, teenagers in high-school this is it.

The story is set in Northern Europe at the start of the 11th century with a group of Vikings besieging a Frankish fortress. The story from the first book i've read is rich and full of depth. The characters are strongly defined. The story is even strengthened due to its historical place naming. Can't wait to pick up the next volume after reading this one. The price isn't bad either especially considering it's a hardcover. Definitely not disappointed after purchasing.

Must-read

by

Vinland Saga is absolutely a must-read series. A part history, part adventure story that captures the reader's attention immediately with stunning art and well defined characters and action.

Most of the story dwells in Thorfinn's past with his farther Thors. Thors plays a huge role in Thorfinn's future. Life in Reykjavik, Iceland (an area I very much want to visit) allows Thors to live by his motto "a true warrior does not need a sword." For Thorfinn, this falls on empty ears, but it will definitely be the central theme in the future.

Vikings!!! Need I say more?

by -

If you like the Vikings tv series, or vikings in general, or brooding badasses out for vengeance, or cold remorseless mercenaries, this is a great series. Warning though: this series does change tone over time.

This volume starts with a bang that gets you invested in the characters, then drops you into some lengthy backstory to explain how these characters are in the circumstances they are. The background info drags on a bit, but is rather necessary.

Perfect!

Absolutely AMAZING. I had heard great things about this series for years and finally started reading it. One of the best manga out there rivaling Berserk and Vagabond.

A Field Guide to Parenting

by

No matter what a parent may hope for the future of their child, each person, ultimately, makes their own path—mistakes, warts, and all. Thors prowess as a warrior and shortcomings as a parent lead Thorfinn, his son, to a reckless pursuit of vengeance. It’s all the more sad as his father’s wish was to keep Thorfinn away from the brutality of war.

The art and storytelling in this volume are excellent. Many well-drawn backgrounds and a large cast of characters give the world real depth. Combat sequences are expertly drawn and clear. Facial expressions are realistic and varied. This is definitely a manga that deserves a spot on your shelf. Highly recommended!

Highly recommend

by -

The story follows Thorfinn, a young mercenary on a quest for vengeance. It's not new in terms of a basic story layout but it stands out due to the character dynamic. What's interesting is that Thorfinn is being "raised" by the same man he's sworn to kill. The characters are relatable which makes learning about their backstories and motivations that much more exciting.

The art is beautiful and highly detailed. Backgrounds and facial expressions are the two things that really stood out to me. The eyes especially caught my attention.

One thing that disappointed me was, other than the colored pages, the rest of the book has that regular quality paper you find in most releases. With the sturdy hard cover and colored illustrations printed on high quality paper, I just assumed the paper used for the black and white pages would be of higher quality. It's just me nitpicking, though.

I definitely recommend purchasing this, and the other volumes as well! The spines look nice lined up.

10 out of 10 recommended!

An absolute must read if you like manga! This series has something for everyone with some of the best character development in all of manga, amazing fights, and explores the deep philosophy of war even when you want peace. All this and yet does an excellent job at being historically accurate. Right stuff anime also has a great price for this book and the shipping was excellent.

Must Buy

by

Love that they come in hardcover and are a bigger size than the normal viz volume that most people have seen. It's about the same size of viz signature volumes. The larger page size really let's you see all the little details in the background and there's a couple of nice color pages in the front of the volume. Story wise we start of with an action scene featuring Thorfinn the main character and we see his tense relationship with Askeladd. The rest of the volume is a flashback showing how the characters became linked. The ending really leaves you clamoring for the next volume which is exactly what I did

I enjoyed it!

by -

Long story short; it's about vikings. I had a good time reading this, but I don't know if I would rate this as the best manga created like everyone else does. It definitely has a good story, art, and cover, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. I am going to continue buying it because I am interested to see where the story goes. I recommend this to anyone interested!

Believe the Hype!

by -

Vinland Saga is excellent! While the story is fictional, its events unfold in the real historical era during which the Norse people pushed their way into the northern regions of western Europe. Any fans of action and drama can enjoy this, but if you're also into period pieces, this is right up your alley. The artwork is detailed and clean. The paneling is easy to follow, and excels at creating dynamic action sequences. I highly recommend this series.

The overall quality of the hard cover book nice. The binding is well made, and the pages resemble the typical paper you would see in a regular manga volume.

A Simply beautiful adventure.

by -

Vinland Saga is the gift that keeps on giving. Thorfinn's story is an infinitely interesting one for the modern person. It is something completely different than any other story told today. People often compare it to Game of Thrones, though I could not disagree more. Sure it is dark and gritty, but having read two books, I can safely say these two have very few parallels. Vinland Saga, at least for the first arc (books 1-4) is a story of revenge. Also, the print is fantastic. The hardcover really sells the deluxe feel, and the cover arts look beautiful.

You can't put it down!

by

This book is majestic!! Very nicely paced story packed with lots of details in the Viking world. I will admit that some of the characters are a bit adventurer/warrior stereotypical, but I enjoy reading their dialogue nonetheless. I really liked the first volume and am super eager to begin reading the rest.

Great manga that everyone should read

by -

If you are still wondering if you should buy this series you should take the plunge. Great manga with one of the greatest characters in all of manga (Thorfinn). Its about vikings and a story of revenge. Love this series and would buy it again.

A great story about vikings in medieval times.

by -

Vinland Saga centers around Thorfinn's quest for vengeance against the man who killed his father. Even though this first volume is essentially just prologue, it's still very enjoyable and serves as a great start to the story. I can easily see this becoming one of my favorite manga as I read more of the story.

Amazing Story

by -

I’ve always loved Vikings and Viking history and this manga is an astonishing take on the Viking history and story. Easily one of the greatest revenge story’s I’ve ever seen and the first volume being as great as it is it’s hard to overlook and not buy and read even more of this great manga. I also love the fact that it is a hard cover as not many manga are hard cover and it’s much easier to not crease the spine. It also has a shockingly low price for a hard cover along with the discounts from this site it is a great buy.
