Raised in peace and on fanciful tales of a mythical far-off land without war, young Thorfinn dreams of someday traveling to the fabled Vinland. That dream is shattered when threats from the legendary Jomsvikings put him in the path of a band of Viking mercenaries, forcing Thorfinn's father to sacrifice himself to the band's leader: Askeladd.
Alone and far from home, Thorfinn joins the forces of his father's slayer, determined to compel a duel with the mercenary leader and avenge his father. However, Thorfinn quickly finds himself ill prepared for a soldier's life in the long war between Denmark and England...where the opportunistic Vikings earn coin by fighting for both sides. Now he must learn how to fight and survive, even if it means facing friend and clan in battle!

Thorfinn's Quest for Revenge and Brutal Viking Warfare Begins

A great Seinen anime series with the historic angle nicely written into the story. From the 'Saint Brice's Day Massacre' to King Sweyn Forkbeards's attacks to subjugate England in the 11th Century forms the perfect backdrop of Thorfinn's vow to avenge his father's death at the hands of 'Askeladd', and combined with the decade long cruel/savage/bloody battles against England is well scripted.
The animation by Studio Wit is dark/edgy, the story is extremely mesmerizing, the sound effects/musical score is par excellence, and has 'high replay value' for the outstanding presentation. Mappa will produce season 2 in 2023 for the 'Slavery Arc', and pray they approve production of the final 'Expeditionary Arc' soon after.
The LE box is gorgeous with the all-around glossy finish, the lettering has a metallic foil sheen, and the silver 'Chainmail' design bordering the box looks stunning. Art cards, fabric poster, and 176 page book are great, including 'Animal Land Saga' manga.
