About Venus Wars Blu-ray

Venus Wars is an anime movie directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko.

When an ice comet slammed into the planet Venus, terraforming its toxic atmosphere into one capable of sustaining human life, mankind's dream of colonizing other worlds became a reality. Unfortunately for the colonists, Venus isn't the paradise they'd dreamed of. As crops fail and competition for resources intensifies, hostilities grow until the two inhabited continents stand on the brink of war.

Reporter Susan Sommers arrives in the capital of Aphrodia just as Ishtar attacks and only the intervention of Hiro Seno and his Battle Bike team saves her from certain death… but now Aphrodia is under Ishtar's control and Sue, Hiro, and his teammates find themselves on the run! However, their unique skill at Battle Bike, which combines motorcycle racing with roller derby, may just prove to be the secret weapon Aphrodia needs to win the Venus Wars.

Classic action movie.

by -

Awesome action movie from 1989. The art is above average for the Era. The setting is Venus as war breaks out. You've got an enlisted biker-type helping the military and a reporter looking for a big scoop. I won't say anymore for spoilers but this was...and still is an anime classic. No real special features. The booklet and box for this particular release look great. For anyone interested in anime of this era, this is a no-brainer. The HD looks crips and the colors pop despite having a limited color-palette for Venus. Check it out and thank me later.

Awesome release for classic film

by -

This is a very nice set from Sentai filmworks. Not only does this classic sci-fi anime film look great on Blu-ray, but the included art book has extensive in-depth interviews about the creators and production. Watching this movie on TV in my youth I never would have guessed I would get such a great home release for it. And at less than $30 it's an absolute steal. Highly recommend, especially for older fans.

Does not contain the original Manga dub

by -

Venus Wars always looked good and has aged very well. The included artbook is awesome and the case and sleeve both have nice artwork. This release isn’t what I would consider a definitive edition. The original Manga dub isn’t included and there is no option for subtitles with english.

The original dub had some great talent in it. With the new dub alot of the voices sound the same. My second main issue is with how the story is presented in the new dub. In the original dub the Killer Kommandos were more of a gang of punks while the new dub portrays them more as hapless kids. I would really prefer the original dub to have been included.

From Racing Team to becoming a Combat Monobike Unit

by -

A good movie that looks sharp presented in 1080p / 16:9 format. Showcased some cool looking vehicles and machines in this feature Sci-Fi film with the tanks, buggies, monobikes, flying transports, ground transports, and naturally, the 'Railgun' mounted on those combat monobikes that Hiro and teammates transition to joining the Aphrodia Army's fast attack 'HOUND' unit.

Lots of characters in this movie, a good soundtrack to boot, and combat action sequences that still impressed me for a movie made back in 1989. Great technical visuals on the combat monobike with a 'HUD' display screen, defensive smoke canister ejectors, automatic ventral stabilizers, and a 'RAILGUN' that shoots shells at MACH 7 speed...made this a great war movie.

The softcover booklet had good maps/artwork of Venus, key character bios, an illustration gallery, and interviews with Director/Art Director/Scriptwriter. Plus, there's a Manga on 'Battlefield Expose' included as well by original creator. Five Stars!
