Just what 2020 ordered

by -

Another great set of Junji Ito short stories. The first story is very timely for this year as it involves a mysterious occurrence where people in large groups are disappearing, leading to others self-isolating from their friends and family. There's no shortage of metaphoric stories either, with tales about a man too attached to a material object to feel love for his actual wife, and a girl who is looked at only for her beauty by her peers - until they cannot see her at all. We also get a unsettling adaption of The Human Chair. There is also bit of a autobiographical piece where Ito lushes over Kazuo Umezz's work. Two stories included were previously published with Viz's collection for Gyo which is a bit annoying - but one does feature a full-color page while the other is presented fully in color. Speaking of which, the book opens with several full-color pages of artwork including some for previously published stories. This is a great collection that should not be missed.

Junji Ito continues to write masterpiece after masterpiece and Velvet in the Blindspot is definitely another masterpiece. So many more creepy stories to enjoy!! He is my favorite manga author and this manga is a must have for the Junji Ito collection! Just when you think the stories can’t get any weirder or creepier!! You’re in for quite a treat!

If you're a Junji Ito fan then you know you were going to purchase this book sooner or later. He really is the master of horror. This book was on the short side but still had some great stories, it was a joy reading through them. The art style alone is amazing enough to read this book more than once, some images still linger throughout my nightmares.

Another Haunting Ito Collection Worthy of Praise

by -

If you’re a fan of Junji Ito’s works this 10-story collection will not disappoint! If you’re a fan of horror manga in general this is definitely worthy of being in your collection.

Most if not all of the stories are quite short but nonetheless haunting and masterfully drawn. The story Billions Alone was quite fitting to read while in isolation due to the pandemic. The Human Chair, an Ito adaptation originally written by Edogawa Ranpo, was truly terrifying. The only negative thing I have to say about this collection is that there are 2 stories that were previously published in other Viz collections, but even so this collection makes up for it by having colored panels in both stories (one of them is fully in color!) so it almost cancels it out for me haha. What this collection also graciously features is small set of colored prints (called Color Gallery) from Uzumaki, No Longer Human, and Frankenstein.

Overall 10/10 Venus In The Blind Spot is yet another noteworthy Ito collection

Amazing story collection!

by

This compilation is easily quite good! The paper cover of the book is the one I've liked the most, the way the eye looks having the book opened or not is great! It was definitely though to fit both perspectives in order to deliver such an impression!.
It also contains a small poster attached to the first pages and in color, which is a nice addition. The content itself has different short stories and the story The Enigma of Amigara Fault is included, the same one that is at the end of Gyo, however this one has some colored panels.

I am a huge Junji Ito fan, so of course I had to buy this!! The manga came in perfect condition and when I finally read it, I was not disappointed! I enjoyed every single story and the art style was amazing as always! The stories definitely covered the creepy factor and because of that, I will be weary when sitting in a big leather chair!
