About Valkyrie Drive Mermaid Blu-Ray/DVD

Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid contains episodes 1-12 of the anime directed by Hiraku Kaneko.

Fighting for your life has never been more arousing! Based off the hit game series, Valkyrie Drive comes a titillating tale of power, war, and a beautiful bond between girls.

The Armed Virus plagues a small percent of the female population, turning girls into living weapons that are activated with a special…touch. Afraid of the power they hold, these girls are sent to islands where they either survive or die trying. Mamori Tokonome is sent to Mermaid Island and thrust into a world where she is paired up with the mysterious and buxom beauty, Mirei Shikishima. Pressed against a corner, a passionate kiss releases Mamori’s power and she becomes a mighty sword that, in Mirei’s strong grip, is a fearsome weapon. Together they’ll face the Wärter, a group that believes in ruling with a firm hand, who seek the most powerful weapons. Wanting nothing to do with this organization, Mamori and Mirei must find their own way home before the Wärter can claim them for good.

The harder they fight, the closer they grow—can Mamori handle when the battle and feelings heat up?

Special Features: Mini OVA Collection: Episodes 1-6, Episode 03 Commentary, Textless Opening & Closing, and Trailers.

Fan service filled romp of fun

UBER fan-service filled, action, quasi-comedy. VDM has most definitely been a ride and while packed to the absolute rim with fan service, it's a nifty little series to watch. It isn't something cerebral or dramatic or the type of series to truly envelope you whilst you're dying for the next episode. It is however, a very cool break from that series type - and if you're anything like me, a particular / preferred genre is NOT in the cards. I love a little of pretty much everything (except yaoi). So sitting back to watch VDM was nothing but fun, and a lot of "eyes full" for sure, but also some really awesome artwork on screen. If you aren't set in a single anime type or genre rut - and especially if you just came out of a "thinker" - this is the best possible decompression medicine out there.

Think Freezing, but even more fan service - maybe a little less actual storyline. :-)

Could of used more of a story!

The animation is good, but there isn't much of a story.
But it was still enjoyable to watch.

Your hormones will go into OVER DRIVE!

This is a great series if you're looking for girl on girl non stop fan service. FYI this has absolutely nothing to do with mermaids. Mermaid is the name of the island in which this story takes place. The rock theme song "Overdrive" and ending theme are really awesome! From the get go & throughout the series there is a LOT of female nudity & girl/girl action. The animation is truly beautiful. I feel like this is as close as it gets to being hentai without being labeled that. I even laughed several times at just how random and silly the show can be. I mean, there is even a giant naked girl that attacks the town of other barely dressed females at some point! How can you not buy this!?! The bonus episode commentary with the VAs is really hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing! In the end, the story is left setting up more adventures so I would definitely love for them to make a season 2 or second series spin off of this show. If you're on the fence, buy it! You will not regret!

Valkyrie Drive is a rare and pleasant thing

Contrary to popular belief it is quite easy to screw up one of these lewd fanservice shows. If everyone looks the same, if there's no creativity, if it's too pandery to have any real sense of eroticism to it. Valkyrie Drive takes what it sets out to do and hits it from every angle; you'll see erect nipple of all different types, oddball fetishes like giant girls, many different body types and a story that, while silly and porny-sounding, works to frame all of it and isn't just thrown out.

If the main characters weren't so boring compared to everyone else I'd have said it got everything exactly right. You know what you're in for here and it's fun all the way to the end.

Breast fetish hentai masquerading as action/comedy

You will never watch anime with so many lovingly-drawn closeups of nipples becoming erect.

Honestly, that pretty much sums up this show. If you accept that it's porn with a lot of plot and action rather than really, *really* shameless action, it's actually quite a bit better, and has a high budget and unexpectedly high-caliber voice cast.

Mostly, though, I'm disappointed that the concept could have been done as interesting yuri erotica with some real emotional substance, but for the most part it's just kind of silly and fetish-y.

pretty gay and shockingly not gross

As a queer woman, I find this to be one of the only yuri/fanservice shows, that I can not only stomach, but actively enjoy. Usually what turns off many women like me is the inclusion of sexual violence undertones as well as male-pandering wish fulfillment and self-insert qualities. This show has no male protagonist, or even and signifigant male characters, and it uses this to even make a comment about gender and the way that women are treated. There are actually several themes of warfare, and the comodification/objectification of women's bodies, as well as women having agency over their sexuality taken from them.
While these themes are not gone into detail, they are there. The series is over all, surprisingly positive about women and female sexuality, given the fact that it is supposedly a male-targeted show, I still felt very welcome, and I appreciated that.
Also i'm gay and I love tiddies.

Ecchi Go

This is as close to a hentai as you'll get without crossing that boundary. There is definitely a lot of fan service but there is a story. If you're okay with ecchi and looking for a yuri this one is a possibility.
Comparatively wise... this is like a soul eater, girl girl, ecchi anime. The story if you can look past the lude nature is okay. Definitely more scifi in the idea of human modification to make super soldiers but has a happy ending.
This anime is definitely not everyone but if you like action, yuri, and fan service its a yes.

Package Review

Preface: RightStuf did everything perfectly. This review is on the item itself.

The slip cover is the only reason I bought this despite already owning the "Anime Essentials" version. It would be a perfect five star review if not for this detail: there are no graphics on the inside of the cover art like there is in the "Essentials" version.

This is odd. Shouldn't the initial release of a Funimation anime outdo subsequent releases in every aspect? Why is it blank on the inside of the initial release, but have extra graphics on the lesser "essentials" version? Now I gotta keep both copies!

Otherwise, I'm pleased with this purchase.
