Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV Series DVD Remastered
About Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV Series DVD Remastered
This Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV Series collection contains episodes 1-26 and features remastered video.
Justy Ueki Tylor had his life all planned out: join the military, get a cushy desk job, and then retire with a big fat pension check. The perfect plan... until he wandered into a hostage situation and somehow managed to save an admiral! Now Tylor - a man who wouldn't know what discipline was if it bit him on the backside - has been made Captain of the space cruiser Soyokaze.
The crew of this run-down ship is the craziest rag-tag team of misfits you're ever likely to see, and they're not too fond of their complacent new leader. But they'd better learn to work together, because they're about to go head to head with the mighty Raalgon Empire. For better or for worse, the Earth's fate has been placed in the hands of a man who's either a total idiot - or an absolute genius!

Funny, Classic anime series
This is an absolute comedy classic. If you are a fan of space operas or even star trek you will have an absolute blast with this one. Though anyone will find it funny, not just space anime fans! This one will always be close to my heart due to its memorable characters and laughs.
Sure Is Funny

Like any comedy, not every joke will land a 10/10 but The Irresponsible Captain Tylor isn't a bad watch! Certainly give it a chance.
For fans of the Sci-Fi and Comedy genre this one is right up your alley. Overall not a bad series and it's aged remarkably well for a title from 1993. I tend to compare this title more to Nadesico then say Yamato/Star Blazers. I'd say worth checking out if you enjoyed either.
Responsibility, what's that?
Actually bought this used at Jungle Anime in Downtown LA Little Tokyo for $14. And it was in good condition. :P
Another great space anime series. Not much to say about the story since there's not a lot of backstory for some characters and it's your typical 2 races going to war, but with comedy. It does get serious mid way, but ends in a happy, yet hilarious way. I enjoyed it and will be rewatching this series again.
Time to talk about the DVDs. It's in a DVD Thin Box, which contain 5 DVDs in slim DVD cases. DVD covers are pretty nice and DVD extras is decent. Price is not bad, but best to get it when it's on sale or has a discount.
Either way, it's another great addition to your Anime Collection.

Because of Nozomi Ent uploading series' to their YT channel I have actually purchased 3 of them: Space Adventure Cobra, Cats Eye, and now, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor.
This series is WAY, WAY TOO FUNNY. No other series has ever had me laughing so loud before. The writing is excellent also and it even has an English dub that fits perfectly. Anybody who enjoys authentic comedy and awesome 90's animation; buy this right now, you won't be disappointed.
It's so good that I'm going to watch each episode FOUR times. In Japanese, in English, and some YT users have uploaded them in Spanish (Mexico) and Spanish (Spain). That's how good it is!
An anime that you can fall into over and over again.

If you love whimsical Sci-Fi and miss that sense of 90's carefree anime, then you have found the perfect show! This is an anime where your main character is one big klutz and has no foresight, yet somehow always manages to not just get by, but succeed.
One of the funniest anime ever made.

One of my absolute favorite anime's of all time. An extremely funny series that was pretty unusual not only for the time it was made but even today. The cast of characters are all for the most part highly likable. A must see for all fans of anime new and old.
Excellent story; so-so visuals

Captain Tylor inverts the typical tropes of the advancement of a person from bum to military genius/hero. Instead of advanced planning, Tylor does things with a positive attitude and dumb luck. It takes major plot points from other space series of the time like Space Battleship Yamato and changes things to create a more anti-war message. The flag of his fleet has the red circle with green leaves on the edges that are supposed to represent a ship zipping through space. It looks more like a space tomato. His crew and command tends to interpret what he does initially as part of brave master plan kind of like in Overlord, though they will learn the truth.
The visuals are dated from the 90s. They have the not too good nor too bad quality similar to other good series of the time. They really did not bother me and seemed to fit well with how the ship was supposed to look in contrast to the more serious dramas.

10/10 would recommend. It made me laugh. I'm a fan of Slayers and Orphen so this was just my kinda anime I guess.

By the end of this series I had grown really fond of the characters - despite what felt like a bit of a hit and miss opening episode or two.
For me, the humour definitely worked (for the most part) and there's a whole host of nods and inversions of sci-fi tropes that were great fun to watch - but obviously how enjoyable you find the comedic aspects is going to come down to personal preferences.
What really stood out for me was the characterisation and plotting. The premise that no-one is really sure whether Tylor is an imbecile or a genius is great. It allows for a lot of surprising moments - Tylor really manages to pull of some impressive escapes.
And of course, the way the crew eventually starts to work together as a team provides a lot of heart to the series - really enjoyed it.
