When 14-year-old Jomy begins to question the way the society is run, he suddenly becomes a target for both the government and the Mu, an outcast race with extra-sensory abilities who have been fighting against the government for generations. An underrated classic Anime

If you do not mind old school beautifully remastered hand drawn animation, Subtitles, or a long storyline then may I say definitely give this anime from Nozomi a viewing.

I highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys good Sci-fi, Classic Anime, or epic Space Opera about humanity and it's struggle to survive.

Beautifully animated, but a bit slow at times!

I was excited to see this being released in North America. It's not very often that feature-length anime films from the 80s (with the exception of "Akira" and films based on an established TV series of the era) get picked up here.

First the good! This film has beautiful character designs that hold up well even after 35 years. Sure it looks a bit dated when compared to recent releases, but you'd be hard-pressed to find any other anime film from around the same time to rival it. The animation flows nicely to compliment the designs.

Now the bad! I've seen other films before dealing with utopian (or should I say "dystopian") themes before. But I had a hard time rooting for either the establishment or the Mu. Even the film's protagonist, Jomy, is really not all that likable. I found myself falling asleep a couple of times.

I really wanted to like this movie a lot, but I've seen better utopian/dystopian films.

Promising story, mediocre execution

I have never had a passion for 80's animation, so visually I just thought it was ok. The story and characters however were interesting but needed to be fleshed out more. I found myself constantly wishing certain people got more screen time so I could get to know more about them, but the story jumps ahead so quickly that I never felt like the character development was adequate. The film is not actually slow moving, it just doesn't give you enough time to care about anything so it feels dull. You never more than graze the surface of the plot and characters.

There wasn't much to love about the film itself, but I feel like the story and characters have a lot of potential, so I fully intend to watch the series. Hopefully it is able to go more in-depth.

a great addition for any collector

This is one of my favorites. this movie was a really good follow up to the original show. As long as you don't mind subtitles i highly suggest this movie. I would however advise that you watch the show first!

Iconic movie, worth a watch

Wonderful movie, great depiction on Keiko Takemiya's series and standout work by one of the Great 24 members.
HOWEVER, the movie really does show its time more then the more recent anime series or (strangely) the manga series. Still a movie worth watching
