About Tokyo Ghoul Manga Volume 1

Tokyo Ghoul 1 features story and art by Sui Ishida.

Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way - except their craving for human flesh. Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she's only interested in his body - eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.

Solid Seinen Manga

by

I watched the Anime awhile ago and thought it was Good. Not the best but definitely worth watching and now that the manga is released I gave it a read and its amazing! The guy is very artistic with his drawings and quotes.
The art can be really sharp and then the next page really smooth.
The story and characters are awesome and the struggle he has to go through really makes feel realistic. Plus its a VizSig which means its bigger than most manga so you can enjoy the art that much more.

Its a must read for anyone that likes thrillers or want to try a darker manga!
First Volume 5/5 SemiStars (Which doesn't mean much.... but trust me its good)

Amazing series to watch and read

by

First off I watched the anime before reading the manga and after watching the anime it made me want to pick up this series badly. The things I loved most about this series is the characters and the way they all have an influential standings towards the main character. The manga is very gory so if you are not to fond of gory manga then i suggest you do not read this. Overall the series is mostly series and the art is really well drawn. I would recommend anybody who loves horror, gory, or suspenseful manga to read this and give it a shot because it sure got me hooked from the first few pages.

My Most Liked Manga Ever

by -

I first watched the anime. The comments on most of the sites said that the anime diverged quite a bit (especially root a) from the manga too much so i had to read it (the series is very good). I believe that manga is leaps and bounds better that the anime. A great horror series with lots of gore. The writing is very good and continues on in the sequel TG:re, you will probably find your self reading it over because of things you learn latter on in the series. Needless to say if you liked the anime you will love the manga.

Tokyo Ghoul - An Intense Volume

by

I absolutely loved this Volume. There was so much suspense and the experience all through to the end was intense and the horrifying parts were absolutely mortifying. These are all good things however. It is so fun reading all of these characters get together. Kaneki is instantly a relatable character and you feel psychologically connected with him. Both in terms of back story (at times) and his overall personality. This volume is a well deserved 10/10

One of the best series of this decade

by

This series was better than I expected it to be. I wolfed down these volumes, and it was great. This series is perfect at world building, making compelling characters, and having a very interesting story and theme. This series was very enjoyable for me, and I don't think that just having five stars would be enough for my review. I'll help you out to know if this series is right for you.
This series is for those who:
-Don't mind gore
-Want a compelling story
-Like great art
-Enjoy dark themes

This series is not for those who:
-Get scared easily
-Get grossed out easily
-Want a comedy series
-Have a weak stomach and faint heart

I think everyone should read this series. It is amazing. Also, the covers and the artwork is great.

by -

I recently just started this series not too long ago watched the anime it was amazing. People recommended to read the manga so I bought all the volumes 1-14 plus Tokyo Ghoul Re volume 1. Worth it this series is very different compared to other mangas this tells a story about a young man who has to live his life as a ghoul which is very intriguing.

tokyo goul has a lot of potential

by

The art of the manga sometimes leave out facial features for some unknown reason but when it comes to the action and gory panels,it amazed me on how much detail and care for the linework Sui Ishida puts into it the transitions from mundane life which ishida went for a normal manga style to it's shit is getting real, semi realistic gory counterparts.

From the first volume,I can tell that tokyo goul has a lot of potential for being an amazing form of story telling for dark fantasy stories.Giving the readers both sides of gouls and humans about the hell they need to go through living together.Tokyo Goul challenges its characters about their morals, especially the protagonist, ken kaneki.Forcing him to turn into what he and many humans despise is simply amazing.Tokyo goul also has some plot holes and flaws (spoiler alert) like how can kaneki use rize's kagune so easily is it due to extreme stress or was it due to plot armor.

First time ordering will order again

by

I purchase the Tokyo ghoul bundles that where on sale recently and now have all the books so far. The Came early witch I wasn’t expecting but one of the books had its cover bent. I haven’t read them yet but I have seen the anime and it is amazing so I can’t wait to read the series.

Recommend

by -

I watched the anime before reading the manga and saw people saying that the anime didn’t do the manga justice. Compared to the manga, the anime isn’t bad but definitely not as good. There are a lot more details in the manga and the artwork is incredible. First manga I’ve actually read and it’s amazing so far. Would recommend reading it if you’ve only watched the anime.

Ghouls Are People, too

by -

A good, engrossing, and addictive story line and characters. One of those mangas where you start and you kind of don't want to stop once you get going till the last volume, and even then you wish it didn't stop. Beautiful world building and character development. Very interesting take on the whole ghoul motif/point of view. They are seen as other humans rather than just beasts, alone anyway. Will have to go check out the Anime as well.

Trigger Warnings:

- Can easily scare
- Gory imagery
- Dark Themes

Great book. Great service.

by -

I saw the anime & loved it, but I knew the detail would be even better by book. I really enjoyed the transition from Kaneki's accident to his realisation that he's a ghoul. It's just a little slower for Kaneki to process what has happened. I also really appreciated that Kaneki's reaction was initially of distain for ghouls, as weird as that sounds. It gave an immediate character flaw that made him super likable as he adjusts & accepts what he is bit by bit.
Quality of service: I ordered this item with some others, including a Christmas gift. When I realised getting pre-order items would delay the packages I contacted customer services. As a first time buyer I was worried, but the customer care was very quick, clear, understanding, & helpful. Just for the customer care itself, I would buy again.

If you liked the anime, buy the manga!

by -

I first watched the anime, and when I told people about how good it was they would always tell me to read the manga. I don't normally buy manga, as I enjoy watching the show a lot more. But when I bought and read this I couldn't put it down, the anime does not do this series justice.
The manga art style is just so good, and is an easy to follow plot with a lot of details. Again, cannot stress how much I enjoy the Tokyo Ghoul manga art style, and character design.
