About The Mystic Archives of Dantalian DVD

The Mystic Archives of Dantalian contains episodes 1-12 of the anime directed by Yutaka Uemura.

From the talented minds of studio Gainax comes an adventurous collection of mysteries where real works of literature are woven into a supernatural world.

After his grandfather's untimely death, Hugh Anthony Disward visits the estate of his inheritance where he discovers a library that's out of this world. Embodying the archive is Dalian, a clever girl with a sharp tongue as biting as her sweet tooth. Circumstance leads to necessity, and she teaches Huey how to harness the power within-a handy trick to learn, seeing as it's the only way to subdue the monsters brought forth by magical works of literature. These cursed tomes, known as Phantom Books, seem to always fall into the wrong hands. And while Huey and Dalian try to keep up with the paper trails, a friend from Huey's childhood sits patiently in the depths of the Mystic Archives of Dantalian.

Good, but too short

by -

I decided to give this series a try as I'm a fan of period pieces. This is an interesting series.

Pros: Well animated with a good plot. Humor is injected into a series that at times takes a very dark twist. The sub is strong with the opening and closing songs being very enjoyable. The protagonists are likeable, making this series very easy to watch more than once.

Cons: The only real con is the series isn't long enough to fully flesh out the characters, which is a shame. There is so much more depth to the characters that we miss out on. Hopefully we will see a second season or perhaps movies/ovas.

"I ask of thee: art thou mankind?"

One of my favourite anime of all time.
I often rewatch it if I need some "inspiration" in my life.
The opening really is beautiful and the plot is intriguing.
By being the adaptation of a Light Novel, we are used to anime not having a second season or something like that. But after reading the manga (another direct adaptation of the Light Novel), I've come to realize that this anime doesn't need a sequel nor a clear ending.
A clear ending is something you need for a plot that moves onto somewhere. But this opera doesn't have a plot like that.
Just simply think about it using its synopsis: "some things in this world would better go unknown".
That's all you need in order to understand the story.
100% recommended if you want an awesome experience watching a peculiar anime with a peculiar story.
Something that will stay in your mind forever, triggering answers and questions everyday.
