Yes Finally!!

by -

I was waiting for this release in blu ray because Japan have it about 3 years ago and US didn't have it!! This collector's brings all the episodes of the series including The disappearance of nagato yuki-chan!! For this price, it's very cheap!! When I saw this in Rightstuf, it was instant purchase for me. Can't wait to receive this masterpiece :)!!

Immense Value for the Price

I've been waiting a long time for Haruhi to be rereleased for Blu-ray, and it's finally here! This Ultimate Collector's Edition contains four separate series; Haruhi seasons 1 & 2, the two chibi spinoffs (Haruhi-chan and Nyoron Churuya-san), and the alternate universe spinoff (Nagato Yuki-chan). It also comes in a deluxe box with a removable filler case (hinted by Funimation to be removable for a mysterious "something else" in the future; my bet is that it's the movie), a whole bunch of art cards, and an insert explaining the different orders you can watch the show in, depending on your preference. If you haven't seen this anime yet, you're really missing out. It's spectacular on every level, including the English dub which, for me anyway, is the definitive way to watch the show, solely for the voice of Kyon. Totally worth the price for fans for the sheer amount of content you get in this set. Hopefully the movie will be coming out soon so it'll be complete!

Almost evbverything

This was an instant pre-order, but how can it be an Ultimate Collector's Edition without the Disapperance of Haruhi movie?

It would be perfect if the movie was in this box too, as it is hard to find now days.

This was pretty much THE anime that got me into anime in the first place.

I've been waiting a long time for this to get the Blu-ray touch and now its here.

First off the show is fantastic. You follow the main character Kyon, a student entering high school who just wants to live a normal life. Then enters Haruhi Suzumiya, a beautiful and eccentric classmate who believes that time travelers, aliens and espers exist. Along the way Kyon and Haruhi form the SOS Brigade and surprise, the three other members who join the SOS Brigade are actually a time traveler, alien and an esper. This must be kept a secret from Haruhi at all costs for Haruhi unknowingly has the power to make anything happen if she wishes for it, and if she knew all this she could change the world as we know it.

All that aside this is a killer price for everything you get. Its just a shame that the movie isn't included in this as Bandai actually still owns the rights to it instead of Funimation. Though I am pretty sure we might get a re-release of that in the future.

Great collection

A great edition to any collection. It includes everything except the movie. Funimation said that the filler box can be removed to fit something else, they also stated it is the same size as a Blu-ray case. It sound like funimation will release the disappearance of haruhi suzumiya at a later date.

Good Deal, Misleading Title

by -

The price on this good but I don't think it lives up to the billing of a "collector's edition". Other than the blatant omission of the movie (not sure if Funimation even has the rights to it), the included art cards are of very poor quality. The cards are very thin and don't measure up to what most people would consider card stock. I would have preferred an art booklet and/or posters. The chipboard box is what you'd expect from a Funimation release, so nothing too fancy. I really wish they would take a hint from Japanese releases as to the fit and finish for their collector boxes.

Collectors Set

This is a pretty nice set and you do get a lot of content for the price. As for the show itself, it holds up pretty well after all these years-very entertaining. The characters are likeable, the story (even the endless 8 arc) is engaging. Well worth the money

The Return of Haruhi Suzumiya: In My Personal Top 10 List

by -

This set is an excellent value for money,as it includes Five! series in one set. 'The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya' is a sci-fi series cleverly disguised as a high school/slice-of-life comedy that gradually builds and hooks you before you're even aware of it; Crispin Freeman and the incomparable Wendee Lee head the flawless English dub cast, making it one of the few anime I only watch dubbed. Today I 'buzz-sawed' the 'Haruhi-Chan' series(also included in this set) for the first time, and it's a hoot! Trust us--this is a Must-Own!

SOS Brigade Members Unite! It is back and better than ever!

The world of aliens, time travelers and espers is back!

The English was crisp and clear (as well as the Japanese) and the anime has never looked this good. There were a few instances of subtitles being a little jagged and some lighting issues, however, this is a 10 year old anime and it is certainly a huge upgrade to the Bandai DVDs.

One difference from the original Bandai DVDs is that the episode previews have been removed from the end of the episodes; the ones containing the speedier, instrumental version of Bouken Desho Desho. A little disappointing but not a huge lose.

The best thing about this collection is that it pretty much comes with everything, including Yuki Chan. The art cards are also included as a nice bonus, however, it would have been a dream if it contained The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. (Funi has hinted and left a great filler space for it. :) The chip board box itself was also sturdy with some beautiful artwork.

SOS member approved!

Truly the Ultimate Haruhi Collection for an Incredible Price!

by -

I hold the original Haruhi anime in a very special place in my heart. It was one of those anime that got me to check out many other shows and genres back in high school, and its been one of my favorite shows ever since.

I have bought several anime over the years, and I can honestly say this is one of the best deals I have ever gotten. You are getting every Haruhi related anime to date with a TON of extras for a little over $110. The price is a steal considering how much content is included with this thing! It even has a filler spot for the movie whenever Funi gets around to getting the rights to it.

If I had to complain about something, it would be that the art cards are pretty underwhelming. They feel more like glossy flyers than actual high quality "art cards". Aside from that, this is an incredible deal for an incredible price. If you are a Haruhi fan, you HAVE to pick this up and add it to your collection!

You need to buy this NOW!!!!

**unfortunately rightstuf has a limit of 1000 characters per review so i will try to do my best**

original 28 episodes look phenomenal, the first 10 of the first season received good upscaling compared to lucky star so the final job looks great and it gives an almost original 1080p feel.

second season since it released way later and used better animation they just bumped the resolution from 720p to 1080p, needless to say it looks gorgeous.

The extras blu ray has live footage in 4:3 and 16:9 and it looks good to be honest, is always nice when they include these "behind scenes" stuff that fans can enjoy.

Haruhi~Chan blu ray "season" chibis look great and because of the art style they didn't suffer too much from the upscaling job so all i can say is great job!!.

Nagato Yuki Chan "season" is the newest content so it looks great all around.

It is unfortunate it doesn't have the movie but as it is right now you get a great package with dual audio for a great price don't let it slip.

Lacking Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, but wonderful collection nonetheless!

Great price for a lot of content

by -

I think this box set is a great deal! With 28 episodes (granted 8 are basically the same) of the original series plus three spin offs, it's a must have for Haruhi fans. Shame that it doesn't include the movie. The box is nice and sturdy. Shame that the filler box and art cards are pretty low quality. The filler box really does seem like it's meant to be thrown away after. Overall good bundle.

Worth every penny

Finally back in print after Bandai's departure from the market, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya continues to display why it has been so influential. There's nothing I can say about Haruhi that hasn't already been said, so I'm just going to encourage you to pick it and watch it if you haven't already. Also included in this set is the recent slice of life spinoff The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, which is very much its own thing and well worth watching.

Best Haruhi deal yet.

by -

It's great to see this whole collection released on blu-ray. I hadn't yet bought Haruhi season 2 (can you guess why?) or Yuki-chan, so I picked this up for the same price it would have taken to buy those. Haruhi-chan is equally amazing. The only drawback is that it does not include the Disappearance movie.

Worship Haruhi at the church of your choice

by -

This is an outstanding set. The one knock would be the absence of the feature film, but there are plenty of hints that it's forthcoming. The Haruhi stories are great- but if you're buying this you know that already. Just rest assured that everything here looks fantastic in HD and is presented in the correct viewing order.

One-Stop Shopping for the Weird and Wacky

It feels silly to review a limited-edition box set, but this one's really exception. The main series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, is probably KyoAni at the peak of their craft, wedding beautiful animation to a highly self-aware adventure that pokes fun at the nature of identity, reality, and consciousness. The two online series are less excellent, although The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya does have moments that make it feel like a comedy spinoff of its predecessor, and The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan is flatly a different story told with the same characters, but the fact that you're getting almost so many hours of content for such a low price makes the all-in nature more excusable. If you're wondering, I'd say bite.

It deserves a 3.5 not 4

by -

I wanted to give this a 3.5/5 rather than a 4, but 3 was too low of a score to round down to.

The collection is a pretty good value as far as getting the series together and some extras go. I like the artwork for everything, and the chipboard artbox is nice on the outside. The art cards are basically the same quality paper you get with a tourist postcard, which is rather disappointing due to how thin it is. The pictures on them are enjoyable.

As far as quality of picture and audio goes it seems to be just fine.

The biggest disappointment of the set was the lack of a movie The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.

No Contest

Awsome show, awsome deal. The only thing this is missing is the movie but other than that it is a great value and always great to have things bundled.

I for-forgot my bag!

by -

I'm really happy about this purchase because I could never get the complete first season on DVD and now I have both seasons plus the spin offs. My only complaint it's that it can be a little difficult to get out of the box

Love it!

by -

It is exactly what I thought it would be. Entertaining and exciting.

Got it in great condition and love the series

by -

I got it quick in good condition for once it was packaged really well which most of the time conpanies won't do that and now I have a series to watch during Christmas and what I've seen so far it's great all discs work

Awesome Bundle for an Awesome Show

by -

As some have mentioned, this doesn't come with the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is the only reason it has 4 stars from me. The box it comes in is very high quality, and the sheer amount of extras you get is awesome. The art cards are beautiful, and the anime looks wonderful on Blu ray. I will add a disclaimer that I got this for half off, so for me 75 dollars was an absolute steal. I'll leave it up to you to determine if 150 is worth it.

ok boxset not the worse but not the best

by -

lets see

in terms of how the video looks and audio sounds pretty good. Especially if u have a 4k setup (i have a 4k tv, 5.1 soundbar, all monster hd black cables yes the 100$ ones, and a 4k (not a upscale 4k player) looks and sounds better. the remastering is much clearer to me especially if i pop my bandai dvds using the same equipment I used for the bluray version.

extras- were ok. most of the old extras from my bandai dvds are here. eh for me i dont care much about extras. uncut video/audio with english subs is top priority for me.

I got this on sale as well I didnt like any of the cards or thought the box set was just a small boost from the usual bluray packaging. If u dont care about the packaging, look, that much just get the normal version and save money for the haruhi movie. I would of gotten the normal version too, but I saw the fold out panel or cheap disc holder packaging and there was no box to hold the bluray cases, so I cave in.
