A Unique Look into the Elizabethan Era
by ANOMANO -
This story is written in past tense, depicting the epic struggle of a man before and after his death as he learns of the legendary Florence Nightingale before her time in the spotlight. What I love the most about this book is how personal the narrative is with the inner struggles of the characters. It takes a mature tone and helps deliver a unique development of character. It is also shockingly grotesque with its personification of a human's ego through these ugly monsters that appear over their heads.
The characters quote heavily on famous plays as the setting is within Queen Elizabeth's reign, with irony to their personal conflicts. It is funny, intriguing, and certainly unique. A good mix for someone looking for an alternative read to the mainstream.
Classics Illustrated, now with ghosts!
by Pg-chan -
This is a short 2-volume story told as a faux-memoir (of a ghost??) about the life of Florence Nightingale and how the work she did in the 1800s changed field medicine and why she is the founder of modern nursing.
As info-tainment, it's a fun and intriguing time, sparking imagination and interest as all good stories should.
