About The Dungeon of Black Company Manga Volume 1

The Dungeon of Black Company manga volume 1 features story and art by Youhei Yasumura.

Kinji had it made–a swank apartment, a real estate empire, and enough cash to lounge around living the good life. After a freak magical accident, he washes up in another world, all but enslaved to a crooked corporation. In a fantastical land where money is everything, there’s only one way for an Earthling to get ahead: make your fortune, by any means necessary! Dragons, goblins, and the occasional dubious potion won’t stop Kinji’s quest for the world’s biggest bank account. The Black Company is open for business!

Great art, Awful Main Character

by -

Pros: The art here is really good.
-There are pretty good character here Like Wanibe the lizard man whos good person and the Monster Girl who is outright hilarious when shes in it.

Cons: Ninomiya... he's the main character and a really bad main character. He's a horrible person who wants to get into a position that he can use everyone around him to his benefit. Started to loose interest part of the way through book 2 and reluctant to invest I looked forward, sounds like he doesn't learn a lesson and receives no character progression.
- The good characters receive almost no "screen time" compared to Ninomiya. It really does focus on following him and his bad luck brought on by being an a-hole
- The humor in this book I would describe as the monster girl is witty. But over all, it's dry corporate humor for the most part. It's kinda funny but I haven't worked a stereotypical dead end life sucking Japanese desk job... So maybe I just don't appreciate it.

A Unique Spin on Fantasy

by -

Where to begin!

The Dungeon of Black Company follows the main character Kinji as he is swept from success into effectively corporate slavery. Fantasy style. Except he is ruthless in his pursuit of freedom and has an incredibly drive to return to a lazy work-free lifestyle. The catch is, things rarely work out as planned, and every "win" has just as much potential to be a net loss.

With an amazing artstyle, a great cast of interesting characters, a good dose of humor, and a very unique premise, this is a series that is worth your time. Lots of crazy shenanigans to be had here, and I'm sure there will be many more to come.
