In the end this alternate-world spin-off turned out to be wonderful!

I’ve enjoyed this series for what it was supposed to do/be, but often wondered if it was going to amount to a trudging slog that went nowhere. But I’ve stuck with this series to the end, and have felt rewarded. Not just Yuki and Kyon finding each other--and making a genuinely sweet couple (just as sweet as Yuki's sisterly relationship with Ryoko)--but all the characters changed and grew over the series, and this spin-off’s ending caps them off in places where they move on with their lives, making it fittingly bittersweet. It’s definitely smoother reading when doing so with this manga in one go rather than volume by volume, but ultimately it did exactly what it set out to do. I’ll always love the original 'Haruhi Suzumiya' series, but I’ve grown to love this just as much in a different way!
