Finally re-released the Original Harem Anime
Considered to be the Original Harem Themed Anime (one guy surround by many -three or more - girls who like him). This is a Sci-fi Action Packed love story (or is it the other way around?).
This has been out of print for many years now and when it was announced at the 2012 Anime Expo in Los Angeles that Funimation would re-release this series this year the room went wild.
Originally slowly released in Japan1992-1995 by Pioneer this was a big hit in Japan and the USA throughout the 1990's and into 2000's, An entire family can sit down together and watch this because no matter what age bracket you are in there was a character for you to relate to (there is light fan service and language) which just makes it more fun to watch.
Warning - People get this mixed up with the TV Series made in 1995 called Tenchi Universe which is a re-telling of this story with some minor and major changes (but still very good - especially for a TV series version).
Don't let the age of this series fool you, it has excellent animation and super great storyline and characters.
I almost forgot to mention that FUNIMATION fixed some things on this re release!
1. On the original Pioneer release (DVD and Laser Disc) where if you wanted to skip the opening credits and hit SKIP you would go to the opening credits of the next episode - FUNIMATION fixed this.
2. There were some inaccuracies in the English subtitles of the original version that were also corrected by FUNIMATION.
If you like this then you can get the continuation of this series (OVA 3) called Tenchi Muyo - Ryo Ohki
It's-a good show!

I never bought the Tenchi Muyo OVA series when Pioneer first released it, and I regretted it deeply. It was a genuinely great series. In addition to having strong female characters ranging from badass space pirate Ryouko to mad scientist Washu, it was remarkable for its time. I had the manga and TV series 'Tenchi Universe', and the movies, but not the OVA as it ended on a cliffhanger and didn't get continued until a decade or so later. I haven't the right to give this series 4 stars seeing as I have only watched the DVD's because I haven't a Blu-ray Player. Still, if you like science fiction, harem, romance, comedy, and old cel animation. This OVA is for you.
We Need Tenchi!

I love Tenchi Muyo. I watched it on Toonami when I was kid, so I was so happy when I found out that Funimation was going to rerelease everything. I currently have the Tenchi Muyo OVA Collection and its continuation Tenchi Muyo Ryo Ohki. I also bought Tenchi Universe. I love the original story and even though it is a harem I love all the kick ass female characters. Not to mention the animation quality is great.
Over all a great anime and a good series to jump into.
Essential for any anime collection

I first discovered Tenchi via the DVD release over a decade ago. This release is an excellent update on the original. In my opinion, any serious connoisseur of anime should have this in their library. A big thumbs up!
Funimation Failed Tenchi Fans

Glad to see Tenchi Muyo is now on BD. Classic. Good.
Funimation loses points for including “Omake” as an extra on BD disc 2 and on DVD disc 3. It was originally included at the end of episode 13 “Here Comes Jurai” of the second disc of the pioneer DVD ultimate collection. The Omake was a motion comic style storyboard that played after the credits with the option of English OR Japanese voice cast. Now, Japanese with subtitles only. Funimation didn’t claim something to be an extra when it was already part of the series and known to fans; that’s like selling someone a car and including the ignition key as a free bonus with purchase.
Funimation loses points for omitting absolutely everything from the Tenchi encyclopedia from the extras. DVD disc 3 had more trailers as extras than the BD disc 2.
Funimation loses another point for dividing the DVD set into three discs. The series was superior with more episodes per disc, episodes 1-7 and 8-13, when Pioneer produced them over 15 years ago.
Experience the classic harem series in HD

I have always been curious about this one, having heard it both ragged upon and hailed with nostalgia fueled praise.
It's truly something special. There's this interesting mix of classic Asian themes and 90s sci-fi imagery combined with character designs and archetypes of days long gone, all restored to glory in this remastered blu-ray release. The visuals are a feast if you dig stuff from this time period and the synthesizer soundtrack's fun too.
I felt there was a slight disconnect between the events in episode 1 and the rest but it all comes together nicely. The humor was also on point. To no surprise, the weakest link is Tenchi himself who doesn't have much of a real personality and his drawings (and design IMO) often seem neglected compared to the girls around him. But being the blank slate we're supposed to project ourselves onto, it's understandable but still sad.
In the end, you get a solid OVA experience with a true 90s flair.
A classic harem anime that holds the test of time and reboots!

A great classic series watched once when I was younger, but had to own this classic harem series and never regretted. The show has great laughs, characters and twist and turns to keep any anime fan happy. A must buy for any anime collector to add to their library.
Best Space Fantasy Harem series.
I love Tenchi Muyo! Best harem series ever. All space girls and one Earth boy. The hot spring episode is funny! I also recommend Tenchi in Tokyo and Tenchi Ryu Oki ova. The theme song, "I am a Pioneer". rocks. I first watch this on Cartoon Network in 2000. I fell in love with it. It's worth the wait to get it on Blu-ray/DVD combo with the booklet and enhanced picture quality from Funnimation.
Don't miss it.
Tenchi Muyo is a series capable of touching upon a variety of genres throughout its episodes while maintaining the same vibe: a peaceful, relaxing journey that crescendos into action at times and just hangs around the house and plays at other times. Whimsical, full of charming characters and sparkling with humor, while still pulling you into action and drama, this series sets the standard for many a subsequent anime.
If I had to think of the most "anime" anime, if that makes sense, I would probably think of this series.
