The Sequel to the Hit Anime "SWORD ART ONLINE" and Prequel to the New Chapter, "SWORD ART ONLINE II"!!

On a hot summer day, Kazuto (Kirito) takes Suguha (Leafa) to his school, to meet Asuna, Keiko (Silica), and Rika (Lisbeth). Their mission: teach Suguha how to swim.

Kazuto, however, has a prior commitment to see Seijiro Kikuoka, an officer with the Virtual Reality Section of the Department of General Affairs. Kikuoka wants to go over Kazuto's recollection of his time in SAO and ALO, to resolve some unanswered questions.

Just a little bit extra

by -

Extra is an apt name for this because that's what you get - a little bit extra. 70% of it is a recap of the first two storylines, but since it's been a while, I enjoyed it. It was fun seeing the old gang, including everyone (well, except Kirito) in their real and virtual swimsuits. I wanted the limited edition that came with booklet & poster, but I passed. The extra story looked great on Blu-ray.

Since I've already watched the first two season, I'm not sure how easy it would be to follow for someone unfamiliar with the story, however, it seemed like they hit most of the major plot points. This was certainly created for fans, but I think anyone would enjoy it. Go Kirito!

A mix of old and new

SAO fans will enjoy this extra edition which falls between the Fairy Dance and GGO arcs. There is a lot of overlap of the original story, but there is also enough additional material to still make it not just a rehash of stuff already released.

Oh, Great Filler.

Well, in all honesty this is nothing but glorified flashback filler with glimpses of what Sword Art Online II will be. Besides that their is additional content what with the entire cast set out to show Yui what a whale looks like in-game but instead came across an underwater palace that contains an odd side-quest with a sinister plot twist attached to it. Unless you are a huge fan of the show, this may be a lukewarm entry to your collection.

Skip it and get season two

Don’t bother just save ur money for something else.i saw it and it explain what happens on season one. A few minutes more of extras

It's pretty good as an extra. But I feel this should have been included as part of the first season as an ova. But still pretty good. Sort of a leaves nostalgia for the first season.

It's a great starting point for any beginner SAO watchers who are interested in the show and prefer/want to get the gist of main story line of season one faster. It definitely highlighted some of my favorite moments from Aincraid and Fairy Dance while adding in that extra sprinkle of Yui's adventure which I was ecstatic to see since she is my favorite character. Definitely worth the price when compared to other blu-rays.
