Well worth it

by -

I would say a 10/10 for any sao fan or even anime blue ray collector just because it really cheap instead of buying the entire 1st season without even the extra edition which is like a hr long special it is around 220$+ but here its only 160 blue ray format and u get the special included defently would recommend

Probably buy it

by

A few points to consider...
The Japanese releases/imports are much more expensive than this. It is rare to find a box set that is less than $200. That price is for each box set btw, not a full series(looking at you Aria blu-ray). So $160 is not so bad for a complete season that is longer than 12 episodes.
Other companies like Sentai are getting expensive too. Most of their box sets/LE are over $100 for a 12 episode series with cheap trinkets to justify the price.
This hobby can be expensive, however you should have already known that. There is very little chance of it getting cheaper. It is pointless to complain and bash companies because you do not feel like spending money. Luckily, Aniplex is starting to re-release box sets at a much lower price. Be thankful.
Overall, if you really like SOA then this box set is completely worth it. It beats any price on the older versions and personally I like having sets since they allow more space on my shelf. Wish this came with a music CD.

Great deal

So 159 may seem high, but its worth it. Thr quality of the product speaks for itself. Well detailed, not poorly made.

I just hope SAO 2 comes out again soon. Id pay the exact same price.

Aniplex may be high prices, but its 110% worth it.

Awesome Season 1 Box Set

by -

Awesome anime series from beginning to end. While this set may be on the expensive side, this is still far cheaper than buying the episode sets individually or even buying this same thing through Amazon.

This includes the entire first season Which has the Aincrad arc and Fairy Dance. As a nice little bonus this set even includes the Extra Edition side chapter. All in nice high definition Blu-ray.

Now I'm just waiting for a similar deal on Season 2

About damned time!

I've been a fan of SAO since I first broke down and checked it out on Crunchyroll, several years ago. Since then I've addicted many of my friends and family members as well. Being an old-school anime geek, however, when there is a show that I really enjoy I tend to want to own a hard copy. The problem is that the Aniplex releases are absurdly expensive.

Now, I'm not going to say that this set isn't pricey.. But for those of us who want the series in a nice, convenient, (and yes) less expensive box set.. this is just about perfect.

Per usual, the Aniplex Blu-Rays look absolutely gorgeous. So, if this is one you also want to have on your shelf, I say go for it.

Now to wait for SAO II to get the same treatment.

Good price for a great anime

by -

The complete first season of one of my favorite anime series. This is a beautiful set that has all 25 episodes and even includes the special edition show. While the price may seem high, it's right in line with most of the other shows out there.

While some other seasons may cost less, they also tend to have fewer number of episodes, so it balances out, plus buying on here is around $60 less than Amazon as of this review. Now I just have to wait for a set like this to come out for season 2.

Highly Recommended

by -

Say what you will about SAO, but I for one thoroughly enjoy it. If you were thinking about adding it to your collection, this is the way to do it. It comes in a pretty nice box, containing 2 Blu-ray cases with 4 discs each, as well as a 3rd case containing SAO Extra Edition.

One thing I'd like to make clear, the Sword Art Offline bonus features do NOT have English dub. Not a big deal, although I was slightly disappointed. All other episodes have both English dub, as well as the original Japanese audio. While you do miss out on some of the extras from buying the limited edition releases, this set definitely seems like the most cost effective way to own SAO. Now all I need is for season 2 to be released in a similar format.

Amazing Deal

I'm so happy. I bought this only thinking it was Aincrad and ALFHeim arc but it also had the Extra Edition in it. Best part is still the Sword Art Offline. It's super funny.

Amazing Anime

by -

If you are a fan and love this anime you should get this for the price you are saving money over buying them individually. At first I thought this was too much but I just love this anime too much didn't regret buying it at all. Enjoyed watching it for the 2nd time. Hopefully Aniplex does this for season 2 and 3. Will definitely buy them if they are the same price and full seasons.

Great show, Great price.

by -

Honestly one of the best deals you can find here. Instead of paying Aniplex’s outrageous prices for 4 separate Blu-rays, you get all of season 1+ the Extra edition!! Amazing gift for SAO and non-SAO fans alike. Highly recommend this show if you’ve yet to see it.

Overpriced and inefficient use of plastic

by

This set is everything that is wrong with North American anime releases. I reluctantly decided to bite the bullet and buy Sword Art on bluray.

First off, this set is obviously overpriced. This series is years old. I realize that it's still popular, but come on! This should not cost more than about $60.

Second, I'm no genius, but I KNOW that more than 2 episodes can fit on a bluray disc! This set should have no more than 5 discs. 4 for the main series and 1 for the Extra Edition, although this could even be condensed down to only 4 discs. Not only is this a waste of plastic (And I'm sure we're paying for this...) but it's a waste of my time when I have to get up and switch discs frequently.

I really wish Aniplex would get their head on straight. I realize that I'm actually part of the problem because I actually paid for this, but hopefully enough people complain and some changes happen.

Thank You Aniplex!

by -

Been a big fan of SAO for years now, and it's one of a select few that got me interested in anime. This box set was well worth it to me at least.

4 star rating out of 5

You either hate it or you love it for the most part. Not going to argue that Aniplex is cheap, but if you enjoy something enough you'll save up for it.

by

I thought I had reviewed this when I bought it as a guest but apparenlty not lol. The price is well crazy considering it doesn't contain season 2, but honestly I have been a fan since this anime debuted so I let myself be suckered into this box set lol. Yes the plot goes downhill, though Ordinal Scale was great so I hope they imrove going forward. My only criticism for arc 1 is it was too short and didn't focus on Kirito's development as a player enough. Arc 2 was disappointing but it was visually stunning plus I love supernatural themes so while I thought being a fairy was a bit dumb I liked the introduction of magic. GGO from season 2 though is great to me so if you feel disappointed in S1 you need to checkout S2 before you right the show off. The action scenes are great, it is a visually stunning anime, and the music is great as well. Even if it turns out you don't like it I think everyone should see it once.

Love this series!!

by -

I love this series so much! If I have to throw money at the screen so be it. I'm not saying that I support the over pricing here, but I support my favorite anime series, so I'll bite the bullet and pay.
I highly recommend checking out this series, it's so great!

Not a bad box set compared to what's out there

A reasonable cost for the whole season + Extra

by -

*Full disclosure* my items are shipped to Canada, and the exchange rate between US dollars and the Canadian Dollar is painful to deal with...so when I saw that I could get all of the first season + Extra edition for one price instead of having to pay up for limited editions that I didn't really need, I jumped on it.

I'm really happy with the release, and felt that the cost was reasonable for an entire series. It was a bit lacking in terms of having no physical extras, but the box is great and fits neatly with my other content.

Completely Worth It

by -

Honestly, I debated about it for a while just due to the fact of the price. But ultimately, I’m so glad I bought it. When I opened it up out of the package the first thing I noticed was the box. The detail on the embossment of the box is outstanding, it’s not just a cheap cardboard sleeve. The art collages that are used for each blu ray’s cover art are also FANTASTIC. Inside the case each one has its respected world shown. Buying the blu ray’s for digitalized shows is something I like doing since I have a 4K player and my TV does naturalistic upscaling, so honestly having this complete package was worth it. If your one the fence about it, I say, Treat Yo SAO FAN self and buy this.

A great collection!

by -

I'm very late to the party with SAO, only beginning to watch it in 2019 after disregarding it because of how people claimed it ripped off .hack// years ago. I'm so happy I decided to finally see it for myself.

This collection has almost everything you'd want out of it. Every episode in great visual quality, 640 kbs audio, and tons of extras like commentary and additional animated skits! I'm very impressed with the amount of extras included and each disc has something new I've never seen before on it. They give you alot of behind the scenes insight into how SAO/ALO mechanics work, how they made casting decisions for the actors, and in general how they created the show.

I was skeptical about purchasing at first given the large price tag and how its available for streaming online, but I'm happy to own a physical collection like this. Only downside is it comes in 9 discs. That's alot of swapping out.

Perfect for fans of the franchise.

by -

Great high quality box set and an absolute must have if you love the franchise. It does not come with much, but the entire thing oozes quality. Each disc has a different menu and the menus are fast and fluid with chapters for each prologue, OP, end credits, etc. Just gotta love the lossless quality of Aniplex's blurays with the High bit rate and audio quality. No shimmering or blurry action scenes, everything is as it was meant to be viewed.

SAO is amazing!!

by -

SAO is an amazing series. The box set is very clean and compact. I wish it had a big art book instead of the little 2 page pamphlet thing but not a big deal. This is the best way to buy the series on blu ray unless you want to pay 4 times more for each individual limited edition release.

Sword Art Online

by -

Okay so I bought this for my husband for his birthday. I know a lot of people are complaining about the price, and yes it is expensive. Yes they could put more episodes on a disk. That being said the quality is amazing. People talk about being able to watch it on Netflix. Well Netflix has a monthly price and depending on the level you get you are paying at least over 100 dollars a year. Netflix has a habit of taking down Anime. You don't know if they will take it down or if it will ever come back. I would rather pay for the box set then buying it in parts. We love SAO and I am so glad we got this. It looks amazing and sounds great too. Really happy with this buy!

5 star rating out of 5

Worth the price.

by -

The box set art is very detailed and nice. There's art on both sides of the box. The Blu Rays have unique art on each CD and have the episodes titles written on each CD. The Blu Ray Cases is sturdy and strong. It comes will all 25 episodes and the Extra Edition Movie. They all play really well, subtitles are great and the quality is obviously beautiful. The only that's the problem is the price. Since this is created by Aniplex obviously the prices is outrages but if you're an SAO fan, this is worth your price. The extra commentaries are hilarious and the shorts are also a nice touch. Overall it's a great blu ray box set.

Works Perfectly In the U.S.

by -

I was honestly a little worried I'd encounter problems with these Blu-ray Disc before I got them. But I'm pleased to say, I am not disappointed at all. Works perfectly and has all the content that's promised. It's expensive but worth it

Worth the price

by -

So if you are a fan, this is well worth the price. I won't waste time talking about the video quality, because that has already been covered in other reviews. For me if you are a collector and are spending the money for a special edition or collector's edition. This is the benchmark they should all use. While some series use cute or even cool ways of holding the discs relevant to the source material. Overtime you see that the gimmick is cheap. The folder that holds the discs is one of the best I have ever seen. In the past I have had those that when you open it, half of the discs fall out because the holders are cheap. And the other time you fight to get it out of the case, thinking all the time you are going to break the discs. But this is well thought out and makes for a fine display and all the while very practical.
