Good if you want a story about the inside workings of the manga industry. Bad if all you want is romance.

by -

This is an inside look into the manga industry from the perspective of the author of this manga. Most of the characters are modeled after real people the author has met and the main character is based on the author herself. The main character's strange personality might be off putting for some but knowing that her odd behavior is based on the author brings a strange meta quality. This makes the notes from the author as well as the notes from her editors possibly more interesting than the actual story. It made me say things like “Wow people like this really exist.” and “How is this person a serialized author?”
Something to note, this is an omnibus containing the entire series. It has 13 main chapters and 4 bonus chapters.

+Interesting look into manga industry
+Decent laughs
-romance plotline is average at best
-Main character might be too weird for some

Overall I found it a very charming little story about an oddball author written by an equally oddball author.

Wish There Was More

I agree with the other review. Read this if you don't mind a lack of romance, haha. Despite also thinking "people like this exist?" I found them really endearing. By the end.. I felt like it was a little rushed, actually. There's an abrupt change in behavior, then a dangled carrot, and end. You don't ever see their romance even blossom. Which is kind of disappointing because they hint and show and glimpse it all throughout.

This is very different from Sakurai's other works. And honestly, even with the "that's it?!" ending, I love this much more. I just wish there was more, another volume or followup. Or even just the same universe/characters would be cool. That's how much I ended up liking everybody.
