About Steins;Gate Blu-ray/DVD Anime Classics

This Steins;Gate collection is part of the Anime Classics line and contains episodes 1-24 plus the OVA "Egoistic Poriomania."

The microwave is a time machine. Okarin proved it. The self-anointed mad scientist nuked bananas into some gelatinous version of the future. Or maybe it was the past. Doesn't matter. No one thought he could do it, but he did it anyway. He sent text messages through time to people he knew. To his friends. Some of them female. Pretty. He should have been more careful. He should have stopped. Tampering with the time-space continuum attracts unwelcome attention.

Clandestine organizations of nefarious origins take notice. SERN. Always watching. Okarin knows; he can feel their eyes. That's why he started the top secret Future Gadget Lab. To stop them. You should join. We get to wear lab coats, and it's dangerous. Danger is exciting because it's deadly. The microwave is a time machine.

Time travel, enough said

Steins Gate is a thought provoking anime about the power and consequences of time travel. I started this show with the notion it would be like every other time travel show, boy was I surprised. The way time exists and is traversed is incredibly smart and refreshing. If you enjoy great character development and intense story give this show a chance. The only issue is that there aren't more episodes. 10/10

Best Anime Of All Time

by -

It may start off slow but picks up quickly, don't miss a second of it! I couldn't stop watching and pulled an all-nighter (good thing it was the weekend...) All I can say is that it is brilliant! From character development and immersion to plot twists and mystery. I thought Death Note was my No.1 anime but that changed on the final episode. I am hoping they will make a 2nd season at some point. Watch it from start to finish and you will know what I'm talking about.

Absolutely A Must Have!

Steins;Gate is one of the few animes that you will be thinking about long after it is over. It starts out somewhat slow, but when it picks up, you won't want to stop. The anime is based on the John Titor Time Travelor phenomenon. Self-proclaimed, Crazy Mad Scientists, Hououin Kyouma and his friends discover the secret to time traveling and face the repercussion for their actions.

I would compare this anime to Donnie Darko meets the Big Bang Thoery and rate it a 9.5/10.

Dr.Who has nothing on this

This is time travel done right with diverging futures, the Many Worlds Theory, and excellent explanation of how this version of time travel works. Okabe creates a time machine by accident that can send text messages to the pass thus changing the present. When time changes only he remembers what happened in the previous timeline. He must use this power to change the past to arrive at a future where he and his friends are all safe. Splendid story, strong characters and one of the best time travel mechanics ever done. Its first few episodes are a bit slow as they use them to flesh out the characters and explain how the time travel works but is puts up quick enough.

If you are looking for a smart show with great writing then this is one of the best. Highly recommend.

Overrated Anime that takes WAY too Long to Get Interesting

It's praised for its mind bending plot and sudden twists and turns but there wasn't really ANYTHING that blew my mind. The first half turned out to be foreshadowing and a set up for several plot twists but since you could see most of it coming it lost a great deal of impact. I REALLY enjoyed the last 5 or 6 episodes but can't forgive how painfully slow and dull the first half was.

There was also a lack of an interesting soundtrack. A detriment to the series considering the right music can make everything more intense, emotional and engaging. If the first half had better music it likely would have been more interesting to watch.

In the end I give the series a 7-8/10. Halfway through it I would have given it a 4/10 at best. I thought it was the absolute worst anime I had ever seen, but the final stretch really picked up A LOT of the slack and makes the series do a 180. I can't give it a higher score in good conscience with how hard the first half was to get through.

A Journey Through Time

One of my favorite animes of all time. The show had me interested from beginning to end. I loved all the characters. Once I got to the end I watched it again from the beginning. It's enjoyable to watch subbed or dubbed. Both were great and fit the characters perfectly. It's a must-watch time and time again.

A Great Way To Think

I have to say it even though multiple other reviews say this statement, this show will make you think. There is little "hand holding" in this anime for the audience, especially with the time travelling plot (I had to rewatch it again to digest the information a little more). The visuals are stunning and the story is surprising original, unlike a lot of other means of entertainment today. I recommend this to people who are time travel junkies like myself, a show with substance, and people who like amazing visuals. Even though it starts a little slow, it breaks running after the first couple of episodes anyway. Feast your eyes and your brain for this wonderful anime!

A masterpiece!

No words can clearly describe such a well made masterpiece, never have I before came upon such a anime. This anime is outstanding! The story plot is incredible and so as the character development. Surely this anime should be my number one top favorite, but Shakugan No Shana remains number one.

Worth the watch

Another great series that is well worth the watch. It will keep you thinking the whole time.

An absolute Masterpiece!

My all time favorite anime! Steins;Gate starts off as a kind of lighthearted mystery, then halfway thru, gets very dark and emotionally realistic. The way time travel is portrayed is unique and pretty grounded in scientific fact, drawing mainly from the multiple-worlds-theory. The cast is small and intimate, none of the characters are boring, and everyone gets a good amount of screen time. Excellent plot twists, perfectly paced, suspenseful, and never a slow moment. This show will keep you engaged from beginning to end. It also ties in a reference to real life self-proclaimed Time Traveler John Titor.

All in all, characterization is superb, The story and writing in this show is touched by god genius. One of the greatest and most emotional finales I've ever seen. Dub or Sub, Steins;Gate is amazing no matter what language you watch it in. This show is so good that ordinary praise isn't high enough to describe it. Steins;Gate is a MUST WATCH!

El Psy Kongroo!

excellent what if time travel story

Stein's Gate is a very well done anime tackles the question of what if you could change something in the past using time travel. Instead of making huge changes to the past, they try to make minor innocuous changes for the better which they don't think would cause major disruption.

The lead is a bit eccentric but comes to learn even the smallest changes can have dire consequences as he tries to save his friend's life over and over while trying to deal with a new found threat from an organization bent on using time travel to dominate the world in the future.

He learns that he must then use the time travel and his unique ability to clearly remember the world before each change to convince his friends and undo the changes of each of their "wishes".

I like the focus on how events don't need to be world changing in our own view to make a difference in the world around us. The anime develops the characters and story very well.

Warm-up your chicken tenders and buckle-up!

An excellent series! The apparent harem set-up falls quickly to the background in the face of a well plotted sci-fi time travel drama. Dynamic story, characters and composition make this series one worth multiple viewings.

Not worthy of all the hype surrounding it

Story: Meh. The story isn't anything super special, just the usual "butterfly effect causes ripples through the future" that you usually get from any time-travel anime. Nothing ground-breaking, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The pacing is pretty poor in the first part, too. For almost 11 episodes, nothing seems to be happening.

Animation: The animation is pretty fluid and consistent. There are some interesting techniques used in high-tension moments that help heighten the drama without seeming cheap. The backgrounds are gorgeous and pretty realistic.

Sound/Voices: I didn't listen to the dub track for this. The Japanese voices matched with the characters, and the voice actor for Okabe seemed to enjoy doing the "mad scientist laugh". The music was okay, nothing too special about it.

Characters: Most of the characters seemed like the result of lazy writing and relying too heavily on standard moe tropes. Nothing really special to see here.

A classic.

Steins;Gate is a masterpiece. It has an amazing soundtrack, a very unique characters and a really interesting plot / character development.

I'd like to say that usually I don't really like movies, TV series and anime series that uses the concept of time travel, because in my humble opinion it's really difficult for the author to explain the time travel mechanism in the universe created. If the author does not explain how it works, the mechanism ends up being poorly executed and the "trick" could even harm the storytelling. Steins;Gate on the other hand has a fluid explanation about time travel in the universe created that I made me enjoy even more the series.

Last but not least, I totally recommend you watch this series. It's the best-executed time travel story that I've ever seen in my experience with anime. I'm sure you will love the universe, the amazing soundtrack and feel captivated by all the characters, its relationships and development.

One of the most clever anime i have seen yet, wish there were more bonus features and german dubbing but still worth buying

Classic Psychological Thriller

by -

Steins;Gate has become a classic psychological anime that can really mess with your mind and emotions. Having the entire series on blu-ray in one box set for such a cheap price is too good to be true. The box is a good size, not too big yet not too small, and it looks pretty cool too!

Beware altering time...

A deep, compelling story about the consequences of altering timelines, blended with elements from urban legends (John Titor) and as Okarin's world unravels around him due to his alterations, he must find a way to undo all he changed but that too has a consequence, something he's willing to risk altering time one last time to prevent.
