Good SD compilation on Blu-ray

by -

Star Ocean EX is still enjoyable years later. Good animation based on a PS1 game, Star Ocean The Second Story, of which, the original production crew did a fairly decent job borrowing from the source material. Nostalgia for the game comes regularly as you come across the characters "again for the first time" and each time you hear certain memorable scores used in the anime.

Don't let the high definition fanatics down-talk this Blu-ray; it still looks good and it is worth a watch. Over 9 hours on 1 disc. This is the kind of show you want at your fingertips when you are sick and need to rest for long periods but unable to sleep.

Okay, but not great...

Alright, so this show was okay. However, it's not great. Now I've heard that this show actually follows the game pretty well and, having played RPG's for most of my life, I can see why. However, since this is an anime and not a video game they really should have changed a few things. For instance, in one episode our heroes would meet someone who will end up joining their team later. Then the next they go on the side-quest for said character, and with several characters it ends up taking over half the series and can get a little tedious. The next would be the ending. Now I'm not going to spoil it but it's really abrupt and has a feeling like it should end with a picture of the heroes with the text "If you want to know how the adventure ends then play the game!" over it. Like I said this series was okay but it's not one I ever need to see again. If you're curious than give it a watch, if not then you're better off with something else.
