Great sport manga

by -

I went into this manga knowing nothing about it and having limited experience with sports manga, but I do have a love of basketball. The art is really great, the humor is on point, and the story itself is relatable and interesting. The story doesn't immediately make the main character, Hanamichi Sakuragi, a god at basketball. It shows his struggles and slow (but not too slow) progress from - becoming somebody who just wanted to impress a cute girl - into a full fledged basketball man! Its a fun, humorous series, and you might learn something new about basketball along the way!

A Meh 1st Volume

by -

I've never been a sports fan, but after hearing so much praise for Slam Dunk I decided to check it out. To be honest, I thought it was just alright. It has a very simple and interesting story, great artwork, but it unfortunaly has one of the most annoying protagonists I've seen. Sakuragi is extremely obnoxious, and I feel like he slows down the progression of the story quite a bit.

Also, the comedy in this series is very slap-stick and not really my type. I'm giving this first volume 3 stars because I can see how Slam Dunk could have room for growth, seeing as how it has 31 volumes. I'm looking forward to seeing if there's any character development that makes it a better story.

The OG of All Basketball Manga (and still the best imo)

by -

My all-time favorite sports manga and the OG of basketball manga. There's a reason why every bball manga pays tribute to it (usually as an easter egg in the background).

The manga starts off very silly but Sakuragi's growth, both as a person and a basketball player, will capture your heart. Even though it's been 2 decades since I first read the series, the ending never fails to make me cry. Inoue-sensei's ability to capture emotion with just his art is... art.

... and in my opinion, still has yet to be beat.

You'll be surprised to find yourself much more invested than you expected. If you love sports anime, treat yourself to this series. You won't regret it.

I Am Basketballman... an epic Slam Dunk against a Gorilla!

Perfect condition as usual. The cover is simple, we immediately know who the protagonist of the story is, and the covers just get better after this one. The story is amazing, I love sports manga and anime, and Slam Dunk is actually the reason why I love them, but that being said, there's no other sports manga like this one. Every other manga always have a protagonist who wants to go to nationals, who love the sport but have some skill deficiency, etc, but Slam Dunk being an old manga, still has some of the best and funniest starts to a sports manga. Hanamichi starts to play basketball, a sport he hates because a basketball player once made him lose a girl, because he wants to impress a girl, Haruko. And from there, the greatest basketball story ever told begins. Everyone should know this is an epic story that you just need in your shelf, you will not be disappointed after 31 epic volumes, you will laugh, cry, feel chills, get excited, and you WILL fall in love with all the characters.
