About Shirobako Complete Collection Blu-ray

Shirobako Complete Collection contains episodes 1-24 of the anime directed by Tsutomu Mizushima with an all new English Dub.

Once upon a time, five girls made an animated film and it was so much fun that they pledged to get jobs in animation so that someday they could make another film together. Now, two years later, Aoi, Shizuka, Ema, Misa, and Midori have learned the truth about the anime industry: it's not always fun, it's anything but easy, and having talent isn't always enough to open the right doors.

Which is why Aoi's overwhelmed by her job as a production assistant, Shizuka's waiting on tables between auditions, Midori's currently scriptless, Misa's switched to C.G., and Ema's working long hours as a key animator. Is it what they imagined? No. But are they ready to give up? Not just yet! Sometimes, when things happen in animation, they can happen in the most wonderful ways in Shirobako!

Maximum number of characters.

The shining star of P.A. Works meta commentary on microcosms of Japanese culture, the viewer gets to see the anime industry through the eyes of Miyamori Aoi, an upbeat assistant producer for a low-mid tier anime production company. Aoi is an infectiously wonderful character, and her ambitious and energetic personality coupled with her sense of wonder as she discovers the nuances of a complicated and interconnected world make this a must watch for those interested in Japanese culture.
Aside from the very, very strong supporting characters to solidify the standing of this show is that this is not a hagiography at all. We see the business from many sides through the viewpoint of many people. It can be wondrous, apathetic, serious, self-dealing (managers), insightful, cooperative and genuine.

Show's a Contemporary Masterpiece

Enough Said.

Shirobako is in places meta, warm, and a commentary on millennials in the workplace, plus a commentary on the anime industry which it gives a peak into.

Enjoyable peek into the inner workings of anime production

I think Shirobako is an excellent show that balances the tightrope walk between telling a story about the real world, while at the same time keeping it light-hearted enough to draw in the fans.

The series doesn't pull any punches about how some aspects of making anime are extremely difficult. The industry's low pay is also mentioned, but in a vague and abstract way. There are many good moments throughout the show, with dashes of humor to keep the entire story from becoming too serious, including defiance of the laws of physics. The glasses might be rose-colored, but they're very lightly tinted.

All in all, this is a fun series to watch, and since it consists of two cours, it'll keep binge watchers happy for a very long time (10 hours total). The selling price is a bit steep, so since I already have the DVDs, I’ll hold off buying the BD until the price drops some more.
