A New Look of the King

by -

If you're expecting an action filled movie then you might be disappointed. But if you are looking for a movie that does nothing but respect the Godzilla franchise while giving a fresh take you are in luck.

A masterpiece

by -

You can tell that Hideaki Anno has been waiting his whole life to make a Godzilla movie all his own. It was worth the wait. This is a gorgeous movie, where even the shots without Godzilla are masterfully composed, each element in harmony. The story is equally put-together, telling a tale of how bureaucracy reacts to crisis and how smart, determined people can overcome the odds. Essential for any kaiju or Anno fan.

its not good people.

This movie is bloody terrible. 80% of the movie is a bunch of guys sitting around in an office setting. Once and a while you get a random shot of "Godzilla" who goes from looking like a worm with googly eyes all the way to looking like littlefoot from the land before with some kind of skin disease.

A beautiful masterpiece misses that old with the new

This film is very much a human story, so if you're here only for the fights, you may want to sit this one out.

This film ingeniously melds the classic style of Godzilla with more modern style of newer Godzilla films and somehow makes the orders Godzilla film.

This film, while the main focus is Godzilla, it's more interested in the humanity of people during an all out works ending epidemic AKA Godzilla, and it's rather fitting watching this now in 2020 with a Pandemic going on throughout the world. Do yourself a favor and watch this, it's rather beautiful.

Return of the King

Why You Might Like It:
-Awesome new take on Godzilla and is without a doubt the most powerful iteration of the character yet (Theres an awesome atomic breath moment that is worth the price of admission alone. Trust me)
-Serious tone dealing with modern issues as opposed to the cheesy old-school style
-Godzilla has multiple forms, YES actual forms lol
-Good soundtrack
Why You Might Hate It:
-Lots of talking heads and dialogue. Yes its a serious story dealing with Japanese issues and a heavy amount of subtext but might be a bit boring for some.
-No other monsters for the big G to fight! Don't expect any kickass kaiju battles
-Ending is interesting but might be dissatisfactory for some

If your a Godzilla fan, old or new, you're gonna like it. Difficult to recommend to people who don't really know or care about Godzilla movies in general though.
