The return of Sailor Moon R the Movie! A must watch for any Sailor Moon fan!
by Emily Marie -
To be clear: this is the NEW dub by Viz Media and NOT the original Dic Dub.
I was fortunate to watch this movie while it was in theaters. Like Viz’s new dub of the 90's anime, the original names, relationships, and plot were intact. The undertones of Mamoru and Fiore's relationship were more prominent in this version which I was happy to see as I feel it did add more to Fiore and his motivations.
While I was used to the original version of this movie by Dic from when I was a little girl, this version was charming and fun to watch. I found myself highly enjoying the movie. We still get the classic 90's cheese, which does sometimes cause moments that are meant to be more serious and dramatic to become comical. While this hinders some movies, I found it made the movie a lot of fun instead.
Viz Media's dub of Sailor Moon the Movie R is a fun movie that I highly recommend to any Sailor Moon fan to watch. I know I will be getting my own copy of the of this version to watch again and again.
GREAT MOVIE FOR MOONIES!!!

I remember seeing this movie years ago in sub and dub (dic version) and I love both versions and when I saw Viz was re-dubbing it I was abit nervous. I was ok with the sub and old dub but I gotta say they did excellent work as this version is uncut which is great for fans who didn't like the DIC dub with the editing.
All in all it's a great movie an if you have to pick one of the Sailor Moon movies to watch it would be this one .
The only issue I would have with this release though it's the art cover which is a huuuuge eye sore for many reasons but it would take forever to type.
Enjoy the movie Moonies!!!

Sailor Moon R is the Best Movie ever.

I love this movie. Instead of the hero(Tuxedo Mask) rescuing the damsel(Sailor Moon) in distress, the distressing damsel rescues the hero in distress. Great story/plot and very emotional toward the end.
Bringing a new generation of GIRL POWER ✊!

I loved the ENTIRE Sailor Moon sagas when I was a teen. As I got older, I was able to pass my love for the Moon Princess, her devoted sailor scout warriors, and her beloved Prince of the Earth, Endimon. Now, I get to watch it through my granddaughter's eyes with renewed amazement. Watching her stand up and yell, 'Moon Power Make-up!' That's the cutest thing!
The graphics and sound quality of the new release are even better than I remembered! Thank you for reviving this as well as the rest of this classic series!

Brings back memories. Loved seeing this after all these years.
Great Movie For Sailor Moon Fans
by Ryan -
Great movie overall. The story feels like a high-stakes episode stretched over 60+ minutes while also serving to fill in some back story for Tuxedo Mask, and giving the rest of the main cast a little more depth.
Fans of Sailor Moon will definitely want to pick this up but people who are looking for an anime movie as a standalone product probably won't get much out of this. The story is self-contained and the movie eases potential new-comers by going over who the sailor scouts are, but it's run-time is too short and the story too inconsequential to really be satisfying.
On the plus side, the animation holds up surprisingly well and the picture quality looks amazing. I own several Viz media titles including Sailor Moon and Ranma 1/2 and there's usually a graininess to them, but this movie looks as sharp as can be.
Sailor Moon fans should buy it, everyone else should start with the series then come back to this.
in the name of the moon ill buy you

The Luster Restored
by ENRIQUE
Sailor Moon R The Movie was the first Sailor Moon DVD I bought. I still have it. Now Viz has brought it back and it looks and sounds better. Lines are crisper. The sound is much clearer. Visual artifacts have been removed The old dub was a reversioning. Viz has given us a translation. This movie is a great option for introducing someone new to the series, especially with "Make Up, Sailor Guardians" being a primer to knowing the characters before the movie.
Best Movie Ever

A beautiful release of one of my favorite movies
by CHELSEA -
This was one of my all time favorite movies as a kid, I still have the original VHS, so I'm ecstatic to have the new dub of this movie on Blu-Ray. The packaging is gorgeous and overall the new Viz dub is really well done. The new voice actors fit the characters so well and the translation is far more accurate than the 90's version, so the story flows a lot better. Overall any Sailor Moon fan would love to have this in their collection.
Fine looking blu-ray of a seminal Sailor Moon title .

If you are a fan, you need this, maybe the best of the Sailor Moon films . If you are not a fan, it is not essential, but still enjoyable . See others for content reviews . The big surprise is how good it looks, Granted that this is a feature film, and there was more funds for it than a weekly TV show, but I sure wished the other Viz Sailor Moon releases looked anywhere near this nice . I'm not a videophile, but there is none of the clearly problematic quality that the TV seasons (so far) have had (they must have had better source material, for one thing). So thanks to the parties who are responsible .
The film itself is a 4 but this release is a 5

As the first film in the series, this one ain’t bad, but it did leave something to be desired. The story felt pretty canon to me and I liked seeing more about the characters’ pasts. It felt like the first arc of season R with Ail and An, which wasn’t bad, but felt a bit off coming after Queen Beryl. The antagonist was interesting but wasn’t the most predominate, but the final confrontation was one of the better highlights of the film. And I would’ve liked an epilogue of some sort cause it just ends too soon right after the final obstacle with not much of a wrap up. The back of case says the movie is 90 minutes when in fact it’s 60. I feel like it it would’ve improved with a bit more runtime, but with what was presented was still pretty good. As for the release itself, everything looked and sounded great. The only thing that looked off was the bad cgi asteroid halfway through. Even though I may have some criticisms with this film, I would still suggest checking it out if you’re a fan.
