Just Amazing. Very Good. Very True To the Source Material.

by

Best anime/manga live action film ever!
I had the pleasure of watching this in my Japanese class a few years ago when my professor was able to add her subtitles to it. It is very true to the source material and all the actors did an amazing job of bringing out the personalities of the characters.
I have not preordered it yet because I am holding out a bit longer to see if anyone will be getting a special edition. I would love to see what kind of clipboard box they could design to hold all three films.
Speaking of that. The trilogy only follows the first two arcs. So movies 2 and 3 cover the second arc. The second film was also very good. I have not had an opportunity to see the third film yet.

FUNimation screwed up the dialogue

by -

The film gets 5 stars, FUNimation's treatment gets 1 star, an average of 3 stars. Both the subtitles and dub have a bad translation. Instead of just leaving the word "Hitokiri" untranslated, or translation it to something like "Manslayer" or "Mankiller" FUNimation instead dec9ded to translate it to "Killsword" which is just stupid. And since it's in both the subtitles AND dub, the only way to avoid it is to watch it in Japanese without subtitles, but then only people that can speak the language can enjoy it. There are probably other translation mistakes, but after having my eyes and ears offended by this bad translation I felt compelled to pause the film after 4 minutes and mention it here.

Worth the expense

by -

A live action adaption that is well worth the expense, finally. Some changes were made, though that seems to be more because of the limitations of film compared to a serial TV show.
