Much Better Than Expected From The Title

by -

Don't be concerned about the title, it is clear from the beginning that the girls are not in any danger. Just as many manga do the first volume mostly introduces the characters and sets up the story. This one does that well without any of the boring narration. While I'm sure the author left out the details about Kazuya and Mami's relationship before the break-up in order to add plot twists later in the story I feel it would have helped while reading to better understand their characters from the start. Based on what I have read in volume one, Kazuya is the shy awkward type that is incapable of interacting with girls, especially pretty ones. Mami is the popular girl who dated Kazuya to get away from the aggressive boys in school and her friends probably gave her a hard time about being with him. Knowing this at the beginning might help to better understand his behavior with Chizuru (his rent-a-girlfriend). I hope you enjoy this slice-of-life story as much as I do.

Boy Meets Girl, Boy Rents Girl

by -

I was torn going into this one. I have to admit... When the MC is alone, or otherwise apart from his rental GF, he's kind of unbearable. Actually, he's just kind of a loser all around, but I feel like he has untapped potential.

The titular rental girlfriend, on the other hand, is extremely likeable, even when her fake cheery GF persona switches off and she starts yelling.

I can see these two really developing an interesting relationship as they try to fake their way through this mess! Will definitely continue.

Great manga that is better than the title alludes

by -

The title concerned me but I was familar with the mangaka from YouTube so I gave it a go. Premise surprisingly was different from what I expected and this appears that it will be a funny harem style show that will entertain without excessive fanservice (so far, I have only read Vol 1). Great read with solid pacing and the art is very approachable and portrays the scenes and emotions well with good timing on jokes and gags.

so-so

Feel like the story is going to drag really bad. I see him as a character that does not develop until towards the end or something drastic happens. I gave it a chance but cannot wait too long for him to develop.

Hang in there, Kazuya!

by -

Going into this series, I expected the story to be your typical cliche, rom-com plot. In some ways, Rent-a-Girlfriend is just that. You have your average-looking protagonist, Kazuya, who through some magical acts of coincidence meets an incredible beauty in Chizuru. Rom-com cliches ensue.

However, that's not all there is to this series. Reiji's art and his ability to convey to his readers the feelings of his characters without narration is incredible. His attention to detail is reflected in all the different outfits that characters in this series wear. As a main character, Kazuya can be frustrating to us readers sometimes, but I believe that's a testament to Reiji's ability to make us feel empathy for his characters. I look forward to the rest of the Rent-a-Girlfriend series, and I believe you should give this manga a try!

No Spoilers - Very Entertaining RomCom

by

Don’t let the title detract you from trying this series. It is a very entertaining harem series. Kazuya recently gets dumped and to cope with his loneliness, he rents a girlfriend to hang out with. There is an agreement between the client and customer that there is no kissing or any form of physical contact besides hand holding. Services such as renting a girlfriend or even a family has recently become a popular trend in Japan to deal with loneliness. Eventually Kazuya and the girl he rents, Chizaru get caught up in having to lie to their friends and family about their relationship status. Most of the characters are likable. Kazuya is depicted as a very pathetic teenager but I’m sure he gets his moment to shine in later volumes. Overall a very entertaining first volume and worth continuing the series.

Great manga

by -

The story is great, the price is very cheap, and the delivery time was really fast. It came in less than a week which was great.

The only problem I had was that when I looked at my manga, there was a small piece of the cover that appears to be torn off, but other than that everything else looked great.

Great characters and great humor

by

As wild as the title sounds, the plot actually works and there is legitimate character development with a coherent story progress. There are also tons of hilarious college humor and "grown-up" jokes that college students tend to make at that age.

A Must-Read For All Rom-Com Fans

by -

Rent-A-Girlfriend may seem typical and trope-filled from the start, but is rather something that I haven't seen in other mangas. Not only is the character design and art-style gorgeous, but the emotions and feelings behind it are.

Great series the first issue is hard to get through though

by -

The first issue is kind of hard to get through because the MC is very unbearable at first but I promise you that after the first issue he gets better and better with each issue I currently have 14 and its easily in my top 3 series just because it is really funny and the characters are so easy to like so I highly recommend it.
