Sports Manga the REAL Way

by -

Typically in sports manga I find myself having to suspend disbelief at the insane feats performed by high school students. Realistic situations tend to be minimal in most sports manga I have seen published in English. True to it's moniker, Real is the most realistic and moving sports manga I have ever read. It portrays people as they truly are, especially the struggles of those with disabilities. If you come into Real expecting nonstop wheelchair basketball action you'll be disappointed, the games don't take up that much time. Rather, basketball is what connects our three unfortunate protagonists together as they struggle through the most important and challenging game they will ever play; life. This isn't a manga just for basketball fans, although being a fan certainly helps, Real is a touching and passionate slice of life drama series that will give you a new perspective on the disabled and an appreciation for the simplest gifts we take for granted.

The Most Real Sports Manga in Decades

by

"Sports Manga" has never been much more than a classification. They live and die on the strength of the characters. I've read/watched absolute classics based on sports I really couldn't care less about, like ping pong. Or karuta. Or volleyball. Or mahjong....

Enter the Wheelchair Basketball manga. 3 teenagers, 17, 18, and 19, all set adrift by their own separate tragedies. Will they find meaning and redemption through wheelchair basketball?

Viz and particuarly Viz Signature always release excellent quality books. This is no exception.

Why you should read REAL

by -

This is a great piece of work and has amazingly intense artwork but is filled with great themes like motivation and hard work but most of all the story telling is great and rich with character development.
