About RePlay Manga

RePlay manga features story and art by Saki Tsukahara.

Yuuta and Ritsu have been playing baseball together since they were children, but after being defeated in a local tournament over the summer, they must retire from the high school team to study for university entrance exams. Still, Yuuta finds himself unable to give up his lingering attachment to baseball. The one person who can truly understand him is Ritsu, who has been acting worryingly distant since they quit the team. But there's something Yuuta himself doesn't understand... Does he think of Ritsu as his partner in the way that a teammate would, or is the affection between them something stronger?

A Pleasant Surprise

by -

This was my first sports BL and I'm not a fan of sports IRL, so I was apprehensive. But, the price was unbeatable (thanks RightStufAnime❤️). As you can see from my rating, I loved it!

Definitely if you're on the fence, don't be! This was such a heartwarming and sensual read. Additionally, the baseball element didn't overwhelm the story, which I appreciated. I can say with confidence I shall be reading this title again!

I'm so happy to have it on my bookshelf 💖

There's no crying in baseball, but there is romance.

First, a remark: our protagonist's name is spelled Yuta all through the book, but Yuuta on the back cover. Which is wrong?

That aside... this is a sweet story about a catcher and pitcher -- not euphemisms, in this instance -- navigating their relationship and how they want to be in each other's lives as high school ends and their future begins. Our couple is cute, their journey worth rooting for, and overall it's a pleasant book to spend an evening with.

However, even though I do think a four-star rating is accurate based on quality, this isn't necessarily a book worth going out of one's way for. I've read far worse, certainly, but at the end of the day, the experience doesn't feel terribly substantive or resonant. It's a snack, basically: good in the moment, but it won't stay with you. Which isn't to say there's anything wrong with snacks, but don't go into this expecting a full course, as it were. One's appetite for BL will be sated, but left wanting more in an hour.

Generic but welldone

I enjoyed my time reading this, the art is decent and the baseball gimmick adds a little bit of spice, but overall I walked away feeling like although I enjoyed it, nothing really stood out for me. There's some attempt at drama and tension, but I didn't feel like it was very planned out so I ended up not feeling invested in it. I also think the fact the characters already felt like they were in a relationship from the start prevent a feeling of moving forward in the story. Overall, decent read, but not something I would jump to recommend unless the idea of a baseball themed BL is really up your alley.
