About Ranma 1/2 Set 1 DVD

Ranma 1/2 Set 1 contains episodes 1-23 of the anime directed by Tsutomu Shibayama.

From the legendary oeuvre of master creator Rumiko Takahashi, the mixed-up, madcap, martial arts romantic comedy RANMA 1/2 returns! After taking a surprise dip in a cursed spring while on a training journey in China, martial artist Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma, aren't quite themselves anymore. Now Ranma turns into a girl whenever he's splashed with cold water, and Genma turns into a panda!

Their new forms cause nothing but confusion at the Tendo dojo, where Soun Tendo is waiting to introduce one of his three daughters to Ranma - as his fiancee! Turns out Genma and Soun arranged the match long ago, but the girl, Akane, and the boy, Ranma, aren't exactly crazy about the idea, or each other! Or are they? Watch the gender switching, jealous rages, and martial arts battles unfold all over again!

Fantastic set, humorous show! Can Ranma ever catch a break?!

Ranma 1/2 can be accurately described as a romantic comedy that tests the limits of, 'How much more misconstrued can we get?' With quite a few characters involved in the story, their interactions make for a funny show, with plenty of martial arts challenges thrown in (some serious, most humorous). If you're on the fence over this series, don't be. It's the '90s older style of animation, but it still holds it's own over newer shows with lesser plots.
In the past, I've owned an older version of a Ranma 1/2 Season 1 set that was only 18 episodes. This version is a much better deal at 23 episodes that include OVA episodes placed where they belong in the series timeline.

Timeless Humor

This will be for the whole series which is quite long and worth it. You have a cursed springs which transforms a person into the being that died in the spring when exposed to cold water and changes back when exposed to hot water. For the MC Ranma, this means becoming a girl. Everything is about competition from a school competition over rhythmic gymnastics, ice skating, traditional tea, who is the cutest, etc. In order to satisfy his boyish need to win, he often has to become a girl. If you do not mind the old anime art style, this is a great series to own. It is like coming back to see the same characters you know do the same things all the time like a local bar. I think of it as a variety show of anime with the same cast/tropes.
