About Project A-ko 2 Blu-ray

Project A-ko 2: Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group is an anime film directed by Yuji Moriyama.

FOR THESE THREE HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS, REPELLING AN ALIEN INVASION IS AS EASY AS A-B-C!

Three weeks have gone by since the alien spaceship crash landed on the Graviton City spire, and since then the aliens have been hard at work converting their ship to a pleasure district, hoping to make friends with the humans!… Not.

Perpetually late and continually over-eating A-ko, spacy and cheerful C-ko, and brilliant and bold B-ko are about to enter summer break from school, and it just so happens the alien ship is open for business. When a free meal turns into a sob story about how the aliens just want to go home, will it be A-ko or B-ko who can get the ship into orbit again?

Impeccable restoration!

by -

It would be virtually impossible for this to look any better than it does. As remastering goes, this is clearly a labor of love, respect, and authenticity. Imperfections in the original print show up clearly, which means you get to see everything from cel scratches and dust down to each frame's individual grain. A vast improvement over previous releases.
Storywise it doesn't quite live up to the level of quirky, satirical mania that the original movie embodied but it's no slouch! The OVA picks right up where the film left off and we explore the consequences of all those hilarious over-the-top action scenes, as experienced by outsized personalities on all sides. We're treated to B-Ko's father as a character who can stand on his own among our unique headliners.
While the first film stands on its own, if you want more of its ridiculous concept then by all means pick up this worthy continuation. The English dub has a different cast, but sequel-to-sequel it's consistent going forward.

Not a worthy sequel to the film, but a great remaster nonetheless!

by

This is another great release and remaster from Discotek! I'm rating this 5 stars for the quality of the remaster, packaging, and the included special features. However, I'd rate the OVA itself about 2 or 3 stars. While nowhere near as memorable or enjoyable as the original Project A-ko theatrical film, the first OVA is another chance to see the antics of some of anime's best characters. The animation is not as fluid or intricate as the film, and the soundtrack is rather forgettable, but this is a nice addition to any diehard fan's collection due to the restoration efforts of Discotek!
