Well, the title is pretty danged accurate.

I love the Pokemon games and thinking too much about the world, so I've been interested in this manga for a while and decided to finally pick up a few volumes.

Red's story (the first three volumes) leans way too heavily on the power of friendship solving everything for my taste. Going up against an overleveled fire type? Well sure, use a grass type just because you know it'll make a good story! That's honestly pretty bleh.

Yellow's story (volumes 4-7) manages to operate more within the confines of the games' mechanics while still managing to one-up the first for crazy and inventive use of pokemon abilities. Also, it made me connect emotionally with a doduo, which a week ago I would have considered impossible.

I expect to buy more of the series.
