About Pet Shop of Horrors Blu-ray

Pet Shop of Horrors contains episodes 1-4 of the anime directed by Toshio Hirata.

Are you seeking something unusual in a pet to fill an empty space in your heart? Then venture, if you dare, into a strange little pet shop in Chinatown, where the mysterious proprietor knows your every need and desire. But watch out. When you buy from Count D, what you get may be what he thinks you deserve rather than what you want. So even if that rare rabbit does somehow look just like your lost child, perhaps you'd be safer shopping somewhere else. That's certainly what Detective Orcot of the LAPD would advise, as nightmarish things seem to keep happening to the shop's customers. Unfortunately, there's never been quite enough evidence to implicate the Count. And until there is, business will continue to boom.

Nice anime, should've been printed on DVD.

While it's nice to have this cult classic anime widely available again, I wish it was on released on a standard dvd instead of 480p on blu ray. When the latter happens, the picture gets windowboxed on the TV, and I have to use the zoom function. Otherwise, it's a good release. Minimal artifacting, picture is clear, and the cover art is quite nice. Good budget release 3/5 stars.

Found a new horror anime for my collection!

My husband bought this anime for me for my birthday and I was super excited to watch it. I had never seen it before and instantly fell in love with the style and the story of it. Not super horrifying or gory but if you are a fan of horror anime, like me, then it would make a wonderful addition to your collection!

4 great fairy tales full of horrors

by -

Yes! It's final here, in blu-ray! I love this anime ever since I rented the VHS from Blockbuster and watched it. That was so long ago and now I finally own it!

Whenever I watched this anime it's like reading fairy tales told from around the world, but instead of happy endings it always ends in some horrific ways. That's what makes it interesting. I wish there were more episodes because the anime, the stories, the characters; especially Count D; so mysterious, are just so unique and interesting to watch. Don't pass up on this anime if you love fairy tales and horror.

It was really interesting, I’m not a very big fan of horror but I wanted to see this and I don’t regret it! It’s definitely worth getting, especially if you do like horror.

4 mostly separate horror tales

The show is very episodic which isn't a bad thing. Each one concerns a different person confronted by their own weakness or guilt, personified by a pet they get for the titular petshop of horrors. The recurring characters, and comedic relief, is the shops owner, and a regular police detective stuck scratching his head at the end of each episode's events at the strangeness of both the cases themselves, and the enigmatic sweet loving shop owner at the root of each of them.

Delightful Suprise

I bought this as an extra to get free shipping and I do not regret it. I had never heard of it before but the description and the reviews sold me. I can easily see why this is a classic. A must have for anime horror fans. Even if you don’t love it, you will not regret buying it because it has such a nostalgic vibe and unique style that will definitely make you want to watch it more than once.

Don't listen to reviews saying this should've been on DVD

by -

As an avid Petshop of Horrors fan since I was quite young, I can say this really is the best quality of the anime you'll get. The noise and artifacting is cleared up from the original DVD along with having better audio. I'd waited quite a while to buy this blu ray because all the reviews scared me away from it but I'm very happy to have it now.

And then on the subject of the anime, though I love it, I've gotta be objective and admit it is definitely not for everyone. Little awkward and stilted in sections but hey I'll always recommend it. Wish some of the other stories from the manga had made it to the animation back in the day but the ones that did get animated are fun.
